Janice W. Bell
Historical Research Room

Janice W. Bell Historical Research Room – Ledyard Historical Society
Open archive on Mondays 9:00 – 5:00 and by appointment other days
(Closed on major holidays)
Research services will not be available August 19, but the Bell Room will be open for donation drop-offs from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.
The Ledyard Historical Society and her fellow Bell Room volunteers wish to thank Ann Donahue for her dedicated work over the last few years. Her major projects included encapsulating over 35 maps, organizing, clipping, and mounting a large backlog of obituaries for our card file, assessing and writing contents documents for donations, and assisting with the physical reorganization of the Bell Room. We greatly miss her talents and her company.
Our recent annual meeting at the Up and Down Sawmill was a success and one of the attendees donated a sign and postcards commemorating the Ledyard Jaycees participation in the refurbishment of the sawmill in the 1970s.
The Ledyard Historical Society is looking for helpers to join us in presenting events for the community, working with the Nathan Lester House collection, or assisting with projects here in the Bell Room. Families, scout or other youth groups, businesses, and other community members are very welcome. We are looking to revive our popular events at the Lester House (as well as create new ones) and make our collections available online to all. We appreciate any time that you can contribute to the preservation and sharing of our community’s history.
Donations or loans for digitizing are always welcome. Appointments to visit the archive or to make a donation may be made by emailing Andrea Buka at research@ledyardhistory.org.
