Update to Library Hours

Happy Holiday from all of us at the Ledyard Public Library

We will be closed on Sunday, December 24 and Monday, December 25.

We will be closed on Sunday, December 31 and Monday, January 1.

Improved Large Print Collection!

We are expanding our large print collection, thanks to funds from the American Library Association Libraries Transforming Communities grant and the generosity of the Ledyard Lions Club. You'll find a newly created large print collection in Children's and Young Adult. You'll also see added titles and genres in the Adult collection. Let us know if you have any requests for titles!

Many thanks to Maybelle, Elsie, and Omi Kathryn for their help with the planters outside of the Gales Ferry Library. Maybelle and Elsie made the cornhusk dolls themselves, and we are so appreciative. Be sure to look for them as you enter the library!

Did You Know?

The Children's area at Bill Library underwent a transformation to expand our popular Early Reader and Graphic Novel sections! You'll see new shelves under the windows thanks to the Town of Ledyard Public Works team. The public access catalog is conveniently located next to the circulation desk. We hope you find the Children's area to be more accessible!

Seed Library News

Planning is underway for the 2024 Ledyard Seed Library! We are acquiring commercial seed packets and will soon be collecting, cleaning, and packaging locally-grown seeds. Developing, maintaining, and managing our seed inventory is possible with the help of our dedicated volunteers. Love all things gardening? Would you like to learn a new skill? Interested in joining us? We begin meeting in January, so if you would like to get involved, email Laura at lnorcia@ledyardlibrary.org. We are looking forward to our 2024 gardening season!

Upcoming Events

December 21 is Crossword Puzzle Day! Stop in to either Bill Library or Gales Ferry Library and do a crossword puzzle for free!

January 11, 2024 is the next Friends Meeting at 7:15 p.m. at the Bill Library. Please join us!

Membership: Did you try our new online sign up for the membership drive? You can pay and fill out your membership form from the library website. Try it out! We will be mailing renewal forms soon.

The Snowflake Festival that was held on November 18th was extremely successful! If you were notified that you were a top bidder, pick up your items by December 2 at Bill Library. Proceeds benefit Ledyard Public Library and its patrons. If you were not the top bidder, there are still some items for sale at each library.

We are incredibly thankful to all who helped make the event a success. Every bit of assistance, be it large or small, contributed and made our event run smoothly.

Remember to visit the ongoing book sales at both library buildings (in the meeting room at Bill Library and the Book Cellar at Gales Ferry Library), each open during normal library hours. All sales go toward support of the library.

Our new website is live! Visit us at ledyardhistory.org. We are working on a ‘Shop’ page where you can purchase our local history books and maps, update your membership, or make a donation. In the meantime, purchases may be made anytime at both library buildings and at the Nathan Lester House on Sunday, December 3 during our annual Yuletide Celebration featuring the Ledyard Carolers.

Email us your questions about Ledyard and Gales Ferry history or local families. Donations or loans for digitizing are welcome. Appointments to visit the archive or to make a donation may be arranged by emailing Andrea Buka at research@ledyardhistory.org.
