Emergency Messenger System Test - THIS SATURDAY, August 30 at 2:00 pm

Bishop Chatard will conduct a test of our emergency notification system (SchoolMessenger) this Saturday, August 30 at 2:00 pm. BCHS uses this system for emergency alerting purposes, such as one-hour delays, school closures, and communicating other critical information. A message will be sent to parents/guardians via email, phone call and/or text message at that time using the contact information provided in PowerSchool.

If you haven't already, new parents/students need to opt-in to receive text messaging from SchoolMessenger. Please text "Y" or "Yes" to 67587 if you want to receive text messages on your mobile phone. If you have a new mobile number, you will need to opt-in using your new cell phone number. Click here for further instructions. Please contact Ben Reilly at breilly@bishopchatard.org with any questions about emergency testing.

Dress Code

At the start of the school year, school officials have been communicating expectations related to the school uniform with the student body. Thus far we have taken a patient and understanding approach in enforcement with students, particularly with the length of uniform shorts, issuing several individual warnings. Starting next Tuesday, warnings will no longer be given and students who are out of dress code will receive detentions. We appreciate parent support in helping us enforce the school dress code. Please feel free to contact Dean of Students Tim Boyle with any questions related to the school uniform.

Important iPad Security Upgrade

Bishop Chatard has recently upgraded our filtering capabilities to provide greater security for student-issued iPads. Until now, content filtering was only available when students were connected to the wireless network at school. Our security upgrade now extends to when devices are taken out of the building and provides filtering when iPads are connected to any network. This is important in reducing cybersecurity threats such as viruses, malware, and other attacks that could negatively impact our school devices and networks.

It is important to note that the security filter will function the same as when devices are connected to the school network. Restricted websites are blocked and school officials are notified when students attempt to access inappropriate content. We ask families to review the “Prohibited Uses” section of our Technology: Responsible Use Policy found on pages 85-87 of the Student Handbook and discuss expectations for acceptable use. Any inappropriate use of school-issued iPads in or outside of school will be referred to the Dean of Students for appropriate discipline.
