City Progress Report:
A look back, a look ahead

Long-time residents may recall a different community: acres of undeveloped land, unpaved streets, the old Simmons Factory on East Jones Bridge Road and the thick stand of trees where The Forum is now located.

But change is inevitable, it is how we manage the change that's important.

It is the responsibility of your city leaders to envision, guide and manage the inevitable changes to our community. It's been six years since Peachtree Corners incorporated. Let's look at the numbers, at our key projects - and at our future.

  Pedestrian Safety

City Adding More Sidewalks

The City Council approved a contract agreement recently for survey, design and engineering for sidewalks for the following:
  • Triangle Parkway,
  • Northwoods Parkway,
  • Westech Drive,
  • Metric Place
  • East Jones Bridge Road from Simpson Elementary to Jones Bridge Park.
These are funded primarily from a 2018 Georgia Department of Transportation grant to the city through its Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant Program.

Startup Business Provides Useful Product to Farmers

A Peachtree Corners startup company has created a product to help make changing weather patterns a little less burdensome on farmers.

Trellis, a budding business at Prototype Prime, provides an affordable option to farmers dealing with turbulent temperatures and irregular rainfall.

The company was started in 2015 by Liz Buchen and Adam Snow, both Georgia Tech graduates. They have degrees in aerospace engineering and both saw a void in the agriculture market for a tool to help prevent over watering and provide farmers with timely information about their fields.

What is the Function of the Zoning Board of Appeals?

The Zoning Board of Appeals is a five-member board comprised of volunteers appointed by the City Council.

Its duties and responsibilities include reviewing and issuing rulings related to variance requests and appeals of administrative decisions.

Decisions of the Appeals Board are not subject to the review of City Council and can only be appealed to Gwinnett County Superior Court.  Members of the Zoning Board of Appeals serve two-year, staggered terms.

City Council Establishes Sidewalk Bank
The  City Council recently modified an ordinance that had required the installation of sidewalks on all new development and re-development projects on existing or new, public or private streets.

At its July meeting the Council approved an amendment to the ordinance creating a Sidewalk Bank which allow developers to provide a financial contribution in lieu of installing sidewalks in locations that would not contribute to the city's sidewalk network nor serve as a pedestrian amenity.

How to Improve Water Efficiency in Your Home
WaterSense was created by the Environmental Protection Agency in 2006 to encourage water efficiency in the United States by creating a special label to denote water efficient products.

The WaterSense approval stamp, pictured on the right, makes it simple to find water efficient products. Products and services with the WaterSense label certification use at least 20 percent less water, save energy, and perform as well or better than regular models.
Tips on Home Mosquito Control

Here are some helpful hints to control of mosquitoes around the home. It is important to get rid of possible breeding sites to avoid a yard full of biting mosquitoes.

The single most important thing you can do to help manage mosquito populations is to manage standing water. Mosquitoes can breed in any standing water, but they are particularly drawn to standing water with lots of organic debris and mosquitoes can breed in as little as one inch of standing water.
