The Importance of a Clean Hull: Boost Your Boat's Performance

We’ve all been one of those people. At least most of us. You know the ones – the folks in the boat watching another vessel pass them on the waterways. “Oh my, did you see that boat?” asks one. “I know. The hull on that thing was horrible,” is the response. An extremely fancy boat otherwise, the two called it a piece of junk. Algae, barnacles, mud and overall scum – the hull was a mess. Most likely, it was a vessel that stayed in the water full time. But even one that’s trailered or one that’s parked in a boatel like the one here at Lynnhaven Marine, it can have hull issues…

QUESTION & ANSWER

QUESTION: SHOULD I REMOVE EVERYTHING FROM MY BOAT BEFORE STORING IT FOR THE WINTER?

ANSWER: Yes, absolutely! Leaving items in your boat during the winter can lead to deterioration from cold, moisture, mold, and even mice. Additionally, clutter can prevent your boat from breathing properly. It’s highly recommended to remove all equipment and clean out your boat before winter storage to keep it in top shape.

UPGRADING CHARGING SYSTEMS
FOR SEAMLESS ON-THE-WATER POWER

This month, we’re spotlighting an exciting upgrade to a customer’s charging system. As you can see in the picture, the bottom left charger is for the trolling motor. You would simply plug it in when you were on land or at the dock and charge your trolling motor batteries(the three green ones tucked under the console). The bottom right charger is for the start and house batteries( the two black batteries under the wiring harnesses). While both chargers work great when docked, wouldn’t it be nice to be able to charge your trolling motor batteries while underway, just like your start and house batteries?

Well, take a look at the Minn Kota Onboard Charging System! This system pulls power from the engine’s alternator and converts it into clean charging power for the trolling motor batteries, just like the start and house batteries.

Lynnhaven Marine installed the Minn Kota system above the factory chargers, wiring it seamlessly into the boat’s existing harness. Now, the customer can keep their trolling motor batteries charged while cruising—no more waiting until they’re back at the dock!

Another flawless installation by the Lynnhaven Marine service team!
