President's message
Alex Baloga

We launched into the new year with a flurry of activity. I’m confident 2023 will bring new opportunities and progress for the industry.

The elections brought new leadership and direction. We are working with partners across the industry on important legislation. Our conferences are set, with a strong lineup of speakers and educational sessions.

This issue of Spectrum opens with legislative updates on swipe fees, the end to SNAP emergency allotments, results of special elections in the PA House and more. Thank you to Rep. Jordan Harris for sharing his thoughts with us in our Legislative Spotlight.

Our member feature highlights a concerning growth in organized retail crime. Read how ORC is impacting members’ businesses and what they are doing to combat it.

The PFMA Corporate Leadership Program is off to a strong start. Thank you to everyone who committed to the program this year and is supporting the association. Learn more about the program here.

Don’t forget to share the Ridge Scholarship application! Eligible students can apply by March 1 to earn $2,500 for the next school year. Last year, PFMA awarded $67,500. Get more information here.

Finally, please join us for our 2023 Annual and Fall Legislative conferences! Registration is open for the Annual Conference, with details on dinner and sessions. Plus, save the date for the Fall Legislative Conference Oct. 10–11 in Hershey.

Thank you for supporting PFMA. Cheers to a positive and productive year ahead!
