The American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP) and the ACOFP Foundation has selected Douglas Harley, DO, FACOFP, FAAFP, for its Master Preceptor Award.

Dr. Harley will be recognized during the ACOFP 63rd Annual Convention & Scientific Seminars, April 15-19, 2026, in Orlando, Florida.

ACOFP's awards program honors in-practice physicians, residents, and students who make exemplary contributions to the field of osteopathic medicine.

The ACOFP Master Preceptor Awards honor preceptors for their ongoing dedication to excellence in training, educating, and mentoring osteopathic medical students in family medicine. This award is to recognize the devoted practicing physicians who make up the majority of our profession's preceptors.

Dr. Harley is Vice Chief of Education for the Primary Care Institute at Cleveland Clinic. He is immediate past president of the OOA, previously served leadership roles on the Ohio ACOFP and the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians boardand has served on committees with national associations.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has learned that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is allowing the temporary importation of Lentocilin because of the ongoing limited availability and extended recovery of Bicillin L-A. The recommendation extends to the treatment of patients who are pregnant.

The National Network of STD Prevention Training Centers has posted information for health care providers on the administration of Lentocilin.

The CDC recommends jurisdictions strongly consider preserving Benzathine Penicillin G (BPG) for treating patients who are pregnant for several reasons. Penicillin is the only recommended treatment for pregnant women and babies with congenital syphilis. Following the recall and due to high levels of syphilis diagnoses in the United States, there is currently a very limited supply of BPG.

State Science Day is a program of The Ohio Academy of Science. For over 90 years, it has allowed students and teachers to highlight students who go above and beyond through scientific, project-based learning.

The OOA needs volunteers to judge student projects (grades 7-12) virtually or hybrid. The awards ceremony is Saturday, May 16, at The Ohio State University — attendance is optional.

• Virtual Judging: April 13-27
• Optional In-Person Event at OSU: Saturday, May 16. 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for judging and 2:45 p.m. award ceremony (optional).

The OOA is proud to support young scientific minds and will provide modest financial awards to winners in select categories.
