Regional Roundup
The Education Committee provides Western lawmakers with a forum to engage in policy discussions and hear from experts about P-20 education and its relationship to cultivating a strong workforce. Additionally, the committee shares insights on national education programs and initiatives. The committee convened during the recent 72nd Annual Meeting for member conversations and engagement with topic experts on selected key issues.

Representative David Northrup -  Born and raised in Wyoming, Representative Northrup was elected in 2013 to serve in the legislature where he currently he serves as the Chair of the House Education Committee. Prior to his legislative service, Representative Northrup served on the Park County School District Board of Trustees, as well as the Willwood Irrigation District Board of Trustees.    Read Full Bio
Senator Mo Denis -  Representing Nevada's Second Senate District which includes downtown Las Vegas and North Las Vegas, Senator Denis has worked to serve his constituents since his election to the Nevada Assembly in 2004. In 2010, he was elected to the Nevada Senate and served as the Majority Leader from 2012 to 2014. Currently he serves as the Senate Pro Tempore and Chair of the Senate Education committee.  Read Full Bio

Program Updates
Elected to represent senate district 26 in 2010, Idaho Senator Michelle Stennett has served as the Senate Minority Leader since 2013. Currently, she also serves on the State Affairs, Resources & Environment Committee and the Local Government & Taxation Committee. During the legislative interim she participates in CSG West's Legislative Council on River Governance (LCRG). This year, the LCRG members voted Senator Stennett to the position of Chair for 2020 and we look forward to working with her on efforts to improve the Columbia and Snake River Basins.

This year's Border Legislative Academy was hosted in Mexico City where U.S. and Mexico border state legislators gathered to learn and discuss the complexities of governing in the border region. Discussions included a review of available resources, a history of the binational relationship, the commonalities and differences in the state legislatures, as well as skills training on ethics and civility.
