GGUS Chargers Camp

Welcoming new 6th grade students to Gus Garcia University School powered by A&M San Antonio Institute for School and Community Partnerships is important to ease scholars into their new middle school experience and getting scholars ready for their new campus. Sixth grade teachers offered students the opportunity to visit classrooms and engage in fun team building experiences while getting to know the campus. New students and their families were given their schedules and were able to visit with each of their educators.

On August 18th, Gus Garcia University School also held an open house for all students and their families.

A&M San Antonio Faculty work with Lab Schools

The purpose of the Senate Bill 1882 Partnership between Texas A&M University – San Antonio (A&M- SA) and Edgewood Independent School District (EISD) is to develop a community-based laboratory school that addresses the unique educational needs of the students and community, while upholding equity for all students.

The teaching and learning laboratory school model by A&M-SA College of Education and Human Development and the Institute for School and Community Partnerships is not only a site for school age scholars to receive a robust public education but also is a site where university students can practice their professional skill building in a real-world context. This includes pre-service teachers observing and teaching in a supportive context, with the help of mentor teachers and supportive A&M-SA Faculty.

A&M - SA is extending the traditional definition to include contextualized, culturally relevant learning programs for students, across disciplines and programs, not just focusing solely on teacher education. Faculty from a variety of disciplines also offer expertise, coaching, consultation, and even curriculum design for each A&M San Antonio Institute for School and Community Partnership campus.

Educator Summit 2022

The A&M San Antonio Institute for School and Community Partnerships hosted all A&M San Antonio Innovation Lab Schools/Senate Bill 1882 campus educators and administrators at A&M - San Antonio campus this year for the inaugural Educator Summit on August 1, 2022. The day-long summit offered the educators the opportunity to engage with each other, lean into their leadership, and hear from a powerful panel of community advocates, campus educators, administrators, and State Board of Education Representative Marisa B. Perez and our own A&M-SA, Drs. Lawrence Scott and Katherine Espinoza. This year's summit opened up to a week-long professional development for two of the SB1882 campuses where A&M-SA College of Education and Human Development faculty supported learning. Special thanks to Juárez & Fernández Consulting, LLC for their guidance and support of our Educator Summit.
