RCLLG February Program
Summary
Last Friday, February 11, we had the pleasure of hearing from a panel of community service organizations focusing on food security. This meeting provided an opportunity for RCLLG members to learn how food is brought to those in need in our communities, and how we as local government entities can find some ways to provide support individually or collectively.
Panelists included:

We heard how each organization works to serve those in Ramsey County, and how they have adapted creatively in response to the increased food insecurity through the Pandemic. Relationships with other organizations have made all the difference. Most of the food shelves rely on charitable organizations and volunteers to keep them afloat. Staff members are honored to serve the community, but do become burnt out due to the increased demand, creating a challenge of retaining and attracting staff.

What Can RCLLG Members Do

  • Express to your local governments how these community organizations can be supported. Donating cash is always preferred, but food can also be donated.
  • Volunteer! Volunteers are critical and take pressure off of staff.
  • Infrastructure support/providing space for food shelves. Think about space that is accessible, has electrical wiring to provide for refrigerated food, connections to community gardens or other access to discounted foods, etc.
Thank you to those who attended!

Inside the Embedded Social Worker Program: How Does it Work? How Can it Benefit My Community?

Friday, March 11 | 7:30 – 9:00 AM | Zoom Meeting

Embedding social workers within public safety has proven to be a successful strategy in St. Paul and Maplewood, so much so that this program is growing and has now started in Roseville! But how does it really work and how can other communities adopt the program? Come hear presenters from Maplewood and Roseville public safety share real-world examples, the daily ins and outs of how the program operates, as well as the benefits, challenges and the steps needed to get a program started.

Invite the public safety professionals as well as other elected officials and staff in your community or organization to attend. All RCLLG Members are invited and attendance is FREE!
2022 Program Recaps
As we look towards our next program, we want to provide you with a lookback on our latest programs.
January: On January 21, we held a legislative update in which we heard from multiple State legislators. The members of RCLLG and the Minnesota State Representatives talked about a variety of issues, including mental health, housing, education, crime, climate change, and more. We heard what bills our legislators are creating and supporting, especially those regarding mental health. Read more here.
