September 2020 Newsletter
Together, we will create a vibrant, intergenerational cohousing community in Novato, California where we know our neighbors well and live more sustainably.
“Fill your house with stacks of books—in all the crannies and all the nooks!”
-Dr. Seuss
One thing C Street Village co-founder Judy Slater is looking forward to in this intergenerational cohousing community is being able to read some of her favorite children's books to new generations. “I’ve got boxes of books waiting to be shared when we move in!” says this pastor, youth leader and bibliophile. She now sends “birthday books” to six grandnephews and -nieces each year, and regularly supplies a friend’s family in Thailand with new books to meet the needs of four young readers.

And recently, when one of our C Street moms lamented during shelter-in-place that the library wasn't open and she couldn't get any more volumes for her young and inquisitive daughter, Judy was thrilled to share some of her favorites. Unable to stop at one or two, she ended up offering two boxes full for selection.
Seeing the boxes come in, the lively three-year old wanted them all right now!!! Mom and daughter have been happily reading through the pandemic and it turns out that many of the books Judy gave them were Mom’s childhood favorites. From Judy, to mom, to a future reader, memories shared, a tradition begun.  We’ve got room for story circles of all ages from picture books to tweens! Judy’s collection numbers almost 3,000 and there’s always someone available at C Street Village when your child says, “Read to me!”

Lynn Lohr
Lynn Lohr
Lynn’s roots make her a natural for cohousing. Growing up the youngest on a South Dakota farm and then moving to the county seat, population 1,500, a stand-in for Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town,” life was all about celebrating and working alongside neighbors. A career in the professional theatre started in St. Paul, Minnesota at the History Theatre (now in its 42nd season) Lynn co-founded with her late husband, playwright Lance Belville.
She continues to direct, produce, and act when she isn’t “wrangling” stories for charitable foundations. She is proud to be known as the “cool aunt” in an extended ecosystem of nieces, nephews, and their progeny.
