| | Operator of the month — Jorge Munoz | | |
Why Jorge was selected
Jorge Munoz from RTD's Platte Division is June's Operator of the Month. Munoz was selected for his extraordinary compassion and quick thinking during a situation involving a severely distressed female at a bus shelter who was trying to harm herself. Munoz calmly engaged her in casual conversation, de-escalating the situation and invited her to sit on his bus, providing a safe and secure space until assistance could arrive. She was then transported to the hospital for further care.

Manager recogntion
“Thanks to operator Munoz’s empathy, professionalism and swift response, the individual received the needed care,” Assistant Manager of Platte Division Kalee Wallace said. “Jorge went above and beyond the call of duty in this life-threatening situation. His actions reflect the highest standards of safety, service and humanity, and he is highly deserving of recognition and commendation.”

| | Safety tip: Lightning Safety Awareness Week is June 23-29 | | |
Showers can happen any time and bring lightning with them. Stay safe this month by remembering these tips!
- Always check the weather before going outside. If the sky looks a little dark, and the mountains are no longer visible, pull up the Weather Channel to see if there is a chance for lightning.
- Avoid windows, porches, and open doors during a storm
| | |
- Stay away from all types of water, inside and outside. Lightning can cause electrical shocks, and can travel through plumbing and pipes.
- Turn off all devices, such as phones and computers, and disconnect systems plugged into outlets
- If outside during a storm, stay away from open spaces like parks, uncovered vehicles, or open structures like gazebos. Also, do not hide under highway overpasses due to the risk that a storm may become a tornado.
- Lightning tends to strike tall structures, so do not take shelter under trees or near telephone poles
For more information on lightning safety and to stay up to date on local weather, visit The National Weather Service.
