Comment on Proposed Regulations for Surplus Real Property

The Massachusetts Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (EOHLC) has issued draft regulations for Surplus Real Property and is asking for comments from the public. These regulations, when final, will establish a framework to guide municipalities and developers in the development of surplus real property, like the MassBay Community College property the state is currently considering to develop in Wellesley.

Written comments on these proposed regulations may be emailed to EOHLCRegulationComments@mass.gov by 11:59 p.m. on April 13, 2026. Use the subject line "Comments on 760 CMR 77". Please do not send comments to the Town of Wellesley as municipalities are not directly involved in the drafting of regulations of state departments and offices.

Additional information about state regulations is available on the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities website at https://www.mass.gov/info-details/hlc-regulations-current-regulations-and-proposed-amendments

And celebrate Public Health Week on April 6-10. Get a free massage, take a free Pilates class, bring your kids to try our obstacle course, and more! Explore all of the Public Health Week offerings on the Health Department webpages.

Conservation Area Concerns

The Town is receiving reports of alterations to the Crosstown Trail along Washington Street, specifically the construction of pathways and jumps on Town-owned land. This is illegal, dangerous, and severely damages these protected environmental areas. Repairing this damage is costly and impacts all taxpayers. If you know individuals who are involved in these alterations, please work with them to dismantle these paths and jumps. If this is not done, the Town will need to take more severe action. For questions or to report additional concerns, please contact Wellesley Executive Director Meghan Jop.

Wellesley Dog Owners, we need your help! The Town has received numerous complaints about dog waste on Town land. With 3,300+ dogs residing in Wellesley it's essential that dog owners act responsibly. Dog waste ruins our parks and playing fields, and runs into our ponds and waterways. This is a public health nuisance! PLEASE be responsible and pick up dog waste AND dispose of it in a correct receptable - do not leave poop bags on the ground. If this problems continues, dog owners could risk losing the privilege of having dogs in the parks.

Also, please be smart when trusting someone with your dog. Before hiring a dog professional to care for your dog, do your research, check references, insurance, etc. Commercial dog walkers may walk up to 3 dogs maximum and ONLY with a permit from the NRC. Go to the Dogs in Wellesley webpages for complete Animal Control regulations and to contact the Animal Control Officer.

Nourishing Wellesley Supports Restaurants & Offers Food Assistance

Provide a meal. There's new funding for a social services program called Nourishing Wellesley. A partnership between the Charles River Regional Chamber and the Wellesley Youth Commission, Nourishing Wellesley supports independent restaurants while helping residents facing food insecurity. This spring, funds from a state grant will be used to purchase $20 prepared meals from local restaurants and distribute them to those in need. Restaurants can apply to take part in this grant program.

Help those in need. The Town of Wellesley also has a community social services fund to support the important work of our social service programs. Any donations are welcome; this money helps provide essential supplies, food, and assistance for seniors, students, and individuals with disabilities.
