| | SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING | | |
March 13 is SEL Day!
Mark your calendars! On Friday, March 13, our schools will join together to celebrate Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Day.
To show our unity and commitment to a positive school culture, we invite all students to wear a yellow shirt to school! We chose yellow to represent the warmth, optimism, and bright futures we are building together.
What is SEL Day?
Social Emotional Learning is about more than just "being nice." It is the process through which students develop the essential skills they need to navigate life, including:
-
Self-Awareness: Recognizing emotions and personal strengths.
-
Empathy: Understanding and celebrating the perspectives of others.
-
Resilience: Learning how to manage stress and solve problems peacefully.
-
Relationship Skills: Building healthy, lasting connections with peers and adults.
By focusing on the "whole child," we ensure that our students are not just academically prepared, but emotionally equipped to succeed in the real world.
How You Can Join In
-
Wear Yellow: Help us turn the hallways into a sea of sunshine!
-
Start a Conversation: Ask your child, "What is one way you showed kindness today?" or "How did you handle a challenge at school?"
When we prioritize emotional well-being, we create a foundation where academic excellence can truly thrive.

Be Present
Consistent attendance is about more than just checking a box, it’s the foundation for your child’s academic and social success. When students are in class every day, they stay in sync with their lessons, participate in hands-on learning, and build the confidence that comes from staying on track. Beyond grades, being present allows students to strengthen friendships and connections, helping them feel like a vital part of our school community. By prioritizing daily attendance, you are helping your child build the habits and resilience they need to thrive both in and out of the classroom.

Attendance Procedures and Absence Excuses
To help our students stay on track and avoid truancy issues, we are sharing some important information regarding how absences are recorded. Our goal is to work with you to ensure that every absence is accurately documented.
1. Every Absence Requires a Note
Please submit a written excuse for every day your child is absent. These notes are important for accurate record-keeping and are the best way to prevent your child from being flagged for truancy.
-
Parents may provide up to 5 written notes per semester that mark an excused absence.
-
Consecutive Illness: If your child is sick for several days in a row (for example, with the flu), those consecutive days will count as only one of your five parent excuses.
2. Why Documentation Matters
Consistent communication helps us distinguish between a student who is struggling with illness and a student who is missing school without a reason. By turning in your notes promptly, you help us keep your child’s record up to date and accurate.
Thank you for your continued partnership in your child's education. If you have any questions regarding these updates, please contact the front office.
Sincerely,
TPSS Administration

Healthy Habits Promote Good School Attendance
One challenge we are all too familiar with is cold and flu season. To support everyone's well-being during this time, TPSS is implementing proactive, rigorous cleaning protocols. Our team continues to regularly disinfect classrooms, common areas, and all high-touch surfaces to ensure a safe environment for all students and employees.
Here are some measures everyone can take to help keep our school community healthy:
- Keep students home if they are feeling unwell. If your child has symptoms such as fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or other signs of illness, please allow them time to rest and recover before returning to school.
-
*Remember to send a Doctor's note or a written parent note when your child returns to school. As TPSS policy states, parents can send 5 parent notes to have absences excused during the 2nd semester.
- Wash your hands regularly with soap and water or use hand sanitizer
- Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or the inside of your elbow
- Avoid touching your face - germs often enter your body through the eyes, nose, and mouth
