2022 Economic Review of Chemistry |
CIAC’s 2022 Economic Review of Chemistry is now available! The report includes 2021’s annual statistics data for Canada’s $64 billion chemical manufacturing industry. This includes shipments, international trade, employment/wages, value added production and other key operating statistics for Canada’s chemical sector. It also provides national and provincial level data for key indicators and an in-depth look at annual operating statistics for chemical, synthetic resin and rubber sub-sectors at the individual product level where available.

CIAC sponsors the Ottawa Riverkeeper Gala |
After several years hiatus due to the pandemic, the Ottawa Riverkeeper Gala returned for an in-person event on June 1 at 50 Sussex, where the three main local rivers meet: the Ottawa River, the Rideau River and the Gatineau River. More than 400 attended the annual event that raises funds to ensure the health of the Ottawa River watershed. In years past, CIAC staff have also participated in the Ottawa Riverkeeper annual clean up, part of CIAC’s commitment to the Responsible Care® codes and ethic. |

Register for the PetroChem Canada Conference |
There is still time to register! Several members of CIAC will be speaking at the PetroChem Canada Conference June 21-22 in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada's premier business and technical event for downstream professionals. Christa Seaman, Director of Plastics, will be speaking on a panel on sustainable practices for post-consumer plastics, with Elena Mantagris, VP of Plastics, moderating the panel. Don Fusco, Director of Government and Stakeholder Relations for Ontario will be moderating a roundtable on renewal and transformation of the PetroChemical Industry. Bob Masterson, President and CEO will be a featured speaker.

National Supply Chain Task Force meeting |
On June 14, Kara Edwards, Director of Transportation at CIAC, attended a roundtable meeting of the recently appointed National Supply Chain Task Force in Montreal. The event included representatives from a variety of industries including manufacturers, retailers, railways, ports, road carriers and airports. The Task Force is anticipated to produce a report with recommendations for the Minister of Transport by the end of September.

2022 Eco 360 Challenge Showcase winners announced |
The Eco 360 Challenge is a competition for students grade 9 – 12, with a focus on developing a feasible innovation plan that incorporates a circular economic model and eliminating plastic waste from our environment.
The winners were recently announced with many classes participating and putting forward truly innovative, outside of the box ideas. The grand prize winner was a grade 10 class from Crescent Heights High School in Calgary that will receive a $1,000 cash prize. Their invention was a ReSleep, a weighted blanket made primarily of recycled plastic.
