CRS Sets a Clear Path Forward — and We Need You With Us

Kate Peyser | CRS Executive Director

This fall, CRS completed an important milestone: the development of our 2025–2028 Strategic Plan, shaped by board members and volunteer leaders. I am excited to share a brief overview of where we are headed, and how you can be part of this momentum.

During our strategic planning session, leaders spoke candidly about the challenges facing radiology today: declining membership across medical societies, financial pressures, consolidation, and the need to clearly demonstrate value to busy radiologists. At the same time, the room was filled with optimism. We saw tremendous opportunity to reenergize membership, modernize how we communicate, strengthen our advocacy presence, and ensure CRS remains the trusted voice of radiology in California.

Across these areas, CRS adopted four core goals for the next three years:

  • Modernize CRS’s digital presence to better serve members; revamp the website; simplify navigation; highlight membership value with coordinated outreach.

  • Redesign the CRS committee structure to increase member involvement; establish clear pathways for participation; include a social media and communications committee.

  • Strengthen membership stability and growth by clarifying value and targeting outreach across career stages. (Growth in paying members of 5% over the next 3 years).

  • Diversify and grow revenue streams, including vendor support and new opportunities, while maintaining responsible budgets.

But none of this can happen without member engagement.

If you’ve ever thought about joining a committee, helping with advocacy, contributing to communications, or getting more involved with ACR efforts, this is the perfect time.

To move these goals from ideas to action, we will need a champion or lead for each area. If you’re interested in stepping into one of these roles or learning more, please email me at kpeyser@amgroup.us.

I want to extend a big thank you to all who contributed their time, ideas, and energy to this process. Together, we are strengthening the society that represents and protects radiology in California.

A Message from the CRS President

James Bronk, MD, FACR | President, California Radiological Society

I hope this message finds you well. Hard to believe it’s already December — where did the year go? As we wrap up 2025, this special edition of the President’s Column has one purpose: to encourage you to renew your CRS/ACR membership for 2026, or to join if you haven’t yet.

By now, you’ve likely received your dues statement. With so many invoices crossing your desk, it’s natural to wonder:

“Why maintain my ACR/CRS membership when I already belong to other organizations, and my group supports me?”

The answer is simple: Who is supporting the profession of radiology?

Many groups address individual needs, but only ACR and CRS focus on protecting, advocating for, and advancing our specialty. Advocacy, policy, and politics — our “APPs” — are what set us apart.

Here are a few recent wins for California radiologists:

  • AB 460 passed, allowing supervising physicians to remotely monitor technologists performing contrast injections — easing scheduling challenges and helping address the radiologist workforce shortage.
  • AB 849 was successfully amended, reducing overreach in proposed chaperone requirements for ultrasound exams.
  • CRS launched a California radiology jobs board, now a strong complement to the national ACR service.
  • ACR continues to advance HR 5737 (ROOT Act) and works with medical partners to stabilize and improve Medicare and Medi-Cal reimbursement.

All of this, and more, is possible for less than $4 a day invested in the future of your profession.

Thank you for your continued engagement and support.

Wishing you and your families a warm holiday season and a happy New Year. I look forward to all we will accomplish together in 2026.

Before the Year Ends, Help the Future of Radiology Begin

Donate to the CRS Foundation

As the year comes to a close, we invite you to consider a tax-deductible gift to the CRS Foundation. Your support directly sustains our annual education event honoring the legacy of William G. Bradley, M.D., Ph.D., whose contributions continue to shape the field of radiology. This year, the Foundation partnered with the ACR to produce a special commemorative podcast and by fully funding a CRS YPS/RFS member’s attendance at the 2025 Radiology Leadership Institute® Summit. With your end-of-year donation, we can continue growing these opportunities and carrying Dr. Bradley’s legacy forward for the next generation of radiology leaders. As 2025 Bill Bradley Scholarship recipient Jasmine Zhoa shared:

"I had an incredible time at the Radiology Leadership Summit in Boston, connecting with residents and attendings from programs across the country. The sessions highlighted the fascinating intersection of leadership, business, and radiology, which are areas that are increasingly shaping the future of our field. I especially enjoyed the small group discussions and exercises about personal identity and the differences between a managerial versus entrepreneurial mindset. All the sessions were also designed to be highly interactive and engaging. It was a valuable experience that left me both inspired and energized for the future of radiology leadership."

CRS Mentorship Program: Share Your Knowledge, Guide a Resident

The CRS Resident and Fellows Committee would like to pair radiology residents with knowledgeable mentors who can provide guidance, share experiences, and support them as they navigate their training and career development. By signing up as a mentor, you’ll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the next generation of radiologists while building rewarding professional connections. If you are interested in becoming a mentor, please fill out the form below.
