Meet Lisa DiBernardi, DVM, DACVIM (Medical Oncology), and DACVR (Radiation Oncology) from Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists in Houston, Texas There is a small group of dual-boarded medical and radiation veterinary oncologists in the world and Dr. Lisa DiBernardi is one of them. Dr. DiBernardi had aspirations of being an exotics veterinarian or veterinary surgeon during her studies at Louisiana State University. It wasn’t until her adopted and beloved golden retriever, Harley was diagnosed with cancer that she realized she wanted to specialize in oncology. By the time Dr. DiBernardi was a senior in veterinary school, Harley had been diagnosed with four different types of cancer. It was then that Dr. DiBernardi realized she wanted to spend her career guiding pet owners in a similar situation. Dr. DiBernardi is one of the many innovators that comprise the Compassion-First Pet Hospitals family, and this is her story.

Get to Know MissionVet Specialty & Emergency We love shining a light on our family of hospitals. This month get to know MissionVet Specialty & Emergency located in beautiful San Antonio, Texas. MissionVet joined the Compassion-First family in 2016. MissionVet has two of three board-certified veterinary neurologists in San Antonio! MissionVet is co-hosting a comprehensive digital veterinary symposium this year along with Compassion-First hospitals, Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists and Austin Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Center! MissionVet recently underwent a remodel and expansion of their hospital expanding to 13 exam rooms and 5 dedicated operating rooms. MissionVet supports the newly graduated veterinarian community with their New Grad Program which provides recent graduates networking and social opportunities with experienced veterinarians and our specialists. MissionVet is open 24/7 for pets needing emergent care on a walk-in basis.

Leaders at the Forefront of Veterinary Medicine Compassion-First Pet Hospitals attract top minds who are on the forefront of the latest advancements in veterinary medicine. In an effort to help propel medicine forward while supporting our teams and fostering their professional growth, Compassion-First created the Medical Directors Advancement Council (MDAC). The MDAC brings together the medical leadership from each of our 43 hospitals across 12 states and focuses on collaborating professionally, discussing our stance on current events taking place in the veterinary community, and defining Compassion-First Pet Hospitals’ medical path forward.
