OCTOBER
2023
Dear Staff,

Each October, we celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), which celebrates the contributions of America's workplaces and economy. At ACLD, we proudly celebrate this awareness month as one of Long Island's largest Supported Employment and Vocational Service providers. We are grateful to the over 100 businesses on Long Island who work with us to support adults with autism, learning and developmental disabilities. The theme for NDEAM is "Advancing Access and Equity." For more information, please visit https://www.dol.gov/agencies/odep/initiatives/ndeam

ACLD is proud to announce that we have been nominated for Bethpage Federal Credit Union's Best of Long Island in the Best Charity category. Voting is open through December 15th, and you can vote daily.

Please visit https://www.bestoflongisland.com/ and cast your vote today!

ACLD and the Board of Directors are proud to announce the return of the Exemplary Service Award and the Gail White-Rison Scholarship Awards. Please see the information below on how to apply. Please note that the deadlines for these applications are October 24, 2023.

'Building Momentum' at the ACLD Foundation's Enviable Life Ball
On Thursday, October 5, ACLD Foundation celebrated their annual Enviable Life Ball at the Garden City Hotel. The evening kicked off with a special sneak-peek performance of the upcoming Broadway Musical, How to Dance in Ohio. Based on the critically acclaimed HBO documentary, How to Dance in Ohio follows seven teenagers with autism as they prepare for their first formal dance. All seven of the actors opening on Broadway also have autism, including Liam Pearce, who plays the lead role of Drew. We were fortunate enough to welcome Liam to open our Enviable Life Ball with 'Building Momentum' from the musical. Click below to watch Liam's fantastic performance
Hearing Smile Outreach
On Saturday, September 16, Community Habilitation staff Thea Gauss took David Tamarin to a “Hearing Smiles Outreach” event at the Washington Heights Armory. David received hearing aids with the latest technology for free through the foundation (a $7,000 value).

Here is David and Thea with the founder of Starkey Cares, Bill Austin.

Thank you Thea for accompanying David on such a special day!
