The non-profit organization, Splashes of Hope, painted stunning new murals and door signs last month for our Kramer Learning Center and The Alan and Ellen Spiegel Children’s Center!
Assistant Principal of Children’s Services Linda Eisen thanked the Splash team saying:
“Splashes of Hope has generously provided Spiegel Children’s Center with many spectacular murals that both enliven the walls of our building and provide language stimulation opportunities for our children.
Families touring the building delight in the artwork and comment on the beauty they lend to our school building. Our newest Alphabet Mural encourages an interactive experience for the children as they engage in locating the various sea creatures and animals depicted.
The space-themed murals support our commitment to PBIS illustrating, our mascot Buddy, and his friends. We applaud the artists who volunteer to create art that afford our children, staff and families a joyful school environment.”

Last month The Organizational Care Committee organized an Employee Engagement Day called School Spirit Day, and staff from around the agency dressed in their school t-shirts and sweatshirts.
|
|
On Friday September 30th, ACLD Board of Director Ellen Spiegel visited our preschool named after her and her husband, The Alan and Ellen Spiegel Children's Center.
Ellen and Alan have been a part of ACLD for decades, serving on both the Board of Directors and Foundation Board. Their son Fred lives in one of our community residences and is supported through our Vocational Services.
The visit was during the school's regularly scheduled staff meeting, and Ellen thanked everyone for the incredible work they perform everyday, and spoke about the life of her son Fred, beginning with his birth and early intervention. She recounted how when he was very young, a doctor told them that they shouldn’t ever expect much from Fred.
|
|
Although it was a long journey, Ellen went on to detail how Fred eventually proved that doctor wrong, and has in fact lived an enviable life with his friends at his home, and has been employed at his job at Aramark LIU Post for over 30 years!
Towards the end, she expressed again how thankful she is of our Children's Services program, and how she believes that if Fred had the quality education that is available now, he would have made even more progress than he has; highlighting the hope and possibilities for every child who attends our preschools today!
After her speech, Ellen was invited to be the one to pull the "Shout Out" winner of the month, a special moment that the school does at every monthly staff meeting.

Congratulations to Laura Heidenfelder, Finance Department's Payroll Assistant on her retirement last month after 9 years with the agency. Laura's husband had already retired last year from his career and the two have now moved down to Florida!
