presidents report
Dear FAB members,
At this month's Board Meeting we had a bittersweet moment when we thanked our outgoing Boarding Members and then welcomed our new Board members. Retiring Board members, Linda Carter, Ruth Anderson-Coggeshall, Jane Caragher, and Harvey Shapiro, have all led FAB Committees while on the Board and have had a tremendous impact on the growth of FAB. We extend our gratitude for their dedicated support of FAB. To our new FAB Board members, Mona Bentz, Eleanore Levy, Sandra Stella, Nancy Bryant and Craig Wilson, we encourage them to provide leadership and support for all that FAB will undertake during the coming years. We are excited to welcome them aboard!

Congratulations to all the recipients of 2022 FAB grants!

We are pleased to inform you that we have awarded $250,800 in Performance Grants and $28,000 in Arts Education Grants. The quality of the programs requested in the grants was outstanding, and exemplified the broadening diversity of artistic organizations in our community.
Over 60 FAB members participated in the grant award process, learning new technology and dedicating their time to ensure that every application was given careful consideration and a fair evaluation. We are proud that FAB members, individual and corporate, stood up to the challenge of COVID-19 and that we emerged victorious in fulfilling our mission to fund arts in Broward County!

Congratulations to the Broward Center, a nominee for “Theater of the Decade”
We asked Lisa Kitei to give us an update on Broward Center in the news, Parker Playhouse, live events & the effects of COVID-19...........
The Broward Center was one of ten theaters around the world nominated for the “Theatre of the Decade” award from Pollstar, the leading publication covering the live entertainment industry. For years, the Center’s Au-Rene Theater has been consistently recognized in Pollstar’s “Top Ten Theaters” list which tracks attendance numbers.
This newly created award goes beyond attendance to review such criteria as talent booking, promotion, production values, staff, fan and artist experience and consistent box office success over the last decade. The winner will be announced at the Pollstar
Awards on June 16.

A message to FAB members from Rebecca Bradley of Cadence
on The Mockingbird Trail

Thank you for joining the December discussion during FAB Presents: Public Art - The Jewel of Your Community. Cadence and the Friends of Mockingbird Trail appreciated the opportunity to share with you the benefits landscape architecture and public art have on our County’s well being. Thank you for connecting with us! The Mockingbird Trail embraces community engagement and its vision is driven by the community for the community. The Trail, located in downtown Fort Lauderdale, strives to provide safe pedestrian transportation through the 8-mile envisioned route, preserve and enhance disappearing urban green space, serve as a mental and physical health resource for residents and provide year round programming with arts, science and education partners. Jane Caragher
Jane Caragher, past Board Member and Membership Chair has taken the time allowed to us all during the last year to expand and nurture her creative spirit. "I've always enjoyed putting pen to paper and allowing the beautiful memories of my life another moment in time". "You can say I consider myself a "hobby writer" and truly only write when inspiration strikes". With an opportunity to reflect and dig in to those times and memories Jane has generously submitted one of these short stories for FAB members and friends to enjoy!
