| | The Network Rallies & Testifies at New York City Council on Impacts of Federal Budget Cuts on New York City | | |
On Monday, September 15th, the Network stood in partnership with the Homes Can't Wait Coalition to rally against harmful federal budget cuts to SNAP, Medicaid, and housing. Following the rally, the Network testified at a New York City Council oversight hearing on the devastating impacts these cuts would have on New Yorkers—particularly those relying on supportive housing.

On September 17th, the Network, in collaboration with Care for the Homeless co-led a cohort of nearly 200 advocates from across New York State as a part of the National Alliance to End Homelessness’ virtual annual Capitol Hill Day.

IMPACCT Brooklyn Opens 778 Myrtle Ave
On September 17th, IMPACCT Brooklyn joined project partners and elected officials to celebrate the grand opening of 778 Myrtle Avenue, a new affordable and supportive housing residence. This new building is creating 60 new affordable apartments, including 30 supportive, in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. On-site services are provided by IMPACCT Brooklyn, funded through the NYC 15/15 initiative, administered by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC DOHMH).

HELP Development Corp and CSD Open Center City Courtyard
On September 17th, HELP Development Corp and CSD Housing joined project partners and local officials to celebrate the grand opening of Center City Courtyard — a transformative new mixed-use development bringing 164 affordable apartments to downtown Rochester, New York. Of those, 95 units are supportive housing, making it the largest supportive residence of its kind in New York State outside of New York City.

Jericho Project and Settlement Housing Fund Celebrate the Groundbreaking of Coney Landing
On September 10th, Jericho Project and Settlement Housing Fund celebrated the groundbreaking of Coney Landing. Once complete, this new residence will create 178 new affordable apartments – including 106 supportive units, LGBTQ+ affirming for young adults – in Coney Island, Brooklyn. On-site services will be provided by Jericho Project funded by NYC 15/15 administered through New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC DOHMH).

New Destiny Housing Breaks Ground on McLean Place
On September 9th, New Destiny Housing joined project partners and elected officials to celebrate the groundbreaking McLean Place. Once complete, this new affordable and supportive housing residence in The Bronx will provide 72 new affordable apartments, including 43 supportive for housing for homeless domestic violence survivors in shelter. On-site services will be provided by New Destiny Housing funded by the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI) administered by the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA).

| | Bowery Residents’ Committee Opens Robert C. Woods Apartments | | |
On August 4th, Bowery Residents' Committee (BRC) joined project partners and elected officials to celebrate the opening of Robert C. Wood Apartments in Far Rockaway, Queens. This new residence brings 147 affordable apartments, including 88 supportive apartments for formerly homeless individuals. On-site services are provided by Bowery Residents' Committee funded by NYC 15/15 administered by NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC DOHMH). The project also includes the Wanda Patterson Women's Residence, a 100-bed shelter for women.

Network Members Featured in NLIHC Report: The National Housing Trust Fund: A Summary of 2020 State
Our National partners, the National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC) released their annual report, The National Housing Trust Fund: A Summary of 2020 State Projects, highlighting how states and the District of Columbia planned to use $323 million in HTF funding allocated in 2020. The HTF provides states with capital funding for extremely low income housing (0-30% AMI) and is a key resource for supportive housing. The report features three Network members: DePaul’s Veddersburg Apartments and Unity House of Troy and MM Development’s Hillside Views.
These funds are made available through New York State Homes and Community Renewal. The Network will continue to advocate for this valuable federal resource, that is funded outside the budget process.

The Network Hosts its First-Ever Home Health Agency Vendor Expo
As part of our Healthy Aging in Supportive Housing workgroup, providers identified a clear need to learn more about trusted Home Health Agencies and the ways they can support older tenants. To help meet this need, we hosted our first-ever virtual Home Health Vendor Expo on Thursday, September 25th.
