Pascale Leone, a leader in the supportive housing movement and an anti-racist practitioner and equity strategist, has been appointed to the position of Executive Director of the Network. Ms. Leone has worked for close to two decades on a wide range of issues related to improving the lives of underserved and at-risk individuals with a focus on equity and inclusion.

S:US Breaks Ground on Starhill

On July 27th, Services for the UnderServed (S:US) and Bronx Pro Group joined Governor Kathy Hochul, Mayor Eric Adams, and project partners to celebrate the groundbreaking of Phase I of their new affordable/supportive housing residence, Starhill. When complete, the residence will create 326 new units of affordable and supportive housing, including 200 supportive units for formerly homeless individuals with substance use disorders.

YWCA Cortland and Christopher Community Open Grace Brown House

On July 21st, YWCA Cortland and Christopher Community joined project and government partners to celebrate the opening of a new supportive housing residence, Grace Brown House. Located in Cortland, the residence is creating 25 new supportive housing apartments for survivors of domestic violence and their families.

Citizen Advocates Breaks Ground on Harison Place

On July 19th, Citizen Advocates joined project and government partners to break ground on a new affordable/supportive housing residence, Harison Place. When complete it will create 40 new units of affordable housing – 20 of which will be supportive – in Malone, New York. Citizen Advocates will provide onsite services funded by the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI) through New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH).

YWCA of Niagara Frontier Opens 49 Tremont Street

On July 14th YWCA of the Niagara Frontier joined project and government partners to celebrate the opening of their new supportive housing residence, 49 Tremont Street. Located in North Tonawanda, the residence is creating 12 new permanent supportive housing apartments for single survivors of domestic violence.

Project Renewal Opens Bedford Green House

On the beautiful summer day of July 14th, Project Renewal joined New York City Mayor Eric Adams alongside government and project partners to celebrate the opening of Phase I of a new supportive/affordable housing complex, Bedford Green House in the Bronx. The first phase of Bedford Green has created 117 new affordable/supportive housing units, including 71 supportive for formerly homeless individuals and families.

New York State HCR Announces Winter 2022 9% Awards
|
|
New York State Homes and Community Renewal announced the Winter 2022 9% awards on July 8th, 2022. Over $18 million in Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) will be used in 16 affordable housing projects. Ten of those have a supportive housing component (63%). In all, a total of 864 units will be created, including 323 supportive units.

On July 1st, Network Director of Policy and Planning Rebecca Sauer testified at a hearing of the City Council’s Housing and Buildings Committee about the need to adjust the city’s current NYC 15/15 Initiative in order to meet the goal of accelerating supportive housing production by two years as laid out in the Housing Blueprint.

CARES of NY Opens Second Street Family Apartments & Elm Street Estates

On June 28th, CARES of NY joined with government partners and elected officials for the grand opening of Second Street Family Apartments and Elm Street Estates in Albany. These two new supportive housing residences are creating 15 new homes for formerly homeless individuals, youth, and young parents.

Lakeview Health Services Opens West End Heights

On June 21st, Lakeview Health Services joined partners and residents for the grand opening of their newest affordable and supportive housing residence, West End Heights in Ithaca, New York. The newly constructed building creates 60 apartments, including 18 supportive for formerly homeless individuals. Services for these units are provided on-site by Lakeview Health Services and funded by the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI).

Deutsche Bank Releases 9th Round of DB SHARE

Deutsche Bank asked us to share the release of its Supportive Housing Acquisition and Rehabilitation Effort (SHARE) - Round 9 RFP. DB SHARE is a unique three-year funding opportunity for nonprofit supportive housing providers.

July was Bebe Moore Campbell Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, also known as BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month. Bebe Moore Campbell was a writer, teacher, NPR commentator and advocate for mental health, particularly for the Black community. In 2003, she co-founded National Alliance on Mental Illness Inglewood, which became NAMI Urban Los Angeles, and provided multicultural and multilingual education and resources.

Important Changes Coming to Eligibility for New York Medicaid, Child Health Plus and the Essential Plan
|
|
|
The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) has formally declared the U.S. to be in a public health emergency since early 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While the public health emergency is in place, New York State is allowed to keep people enrolled in Medicaid, Child Health Plus (CHP), and the Essential Plan (EP) without having them go through their annual renewal. However, when the public health emergency ends, people enrolled in these programs will once again have to take action to renew their coverage.
