Summer New York State HCR 9% Awards Announced |

The summer NYS HCR 9% Awards announced funding for an additional 140 units of Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI) units. This is the second part of the 2019 awards, representing about 25% of the total for the year, with the fall 2020 RFP to be released imminently. That, in conjunction with the soon-to-be-announced conditional ESSHI awards promises to complete the first five years and 6,000 units of the governor’s 15 year commitment to develop 20,000 supportive housing units statewide. The Network, as part of the Campaign 4 NY/NY Housing is pressing the Governor to include a commitment to the next five years/7,000 units of ESSHI in next year’s budget.

In 2016, Governor Andrew Cuomo committed to creating 20,000 supportive housing units across New York over a 15-year period, and the state budget funded the first 6,000 units over five years. That initial five-year commitment is about to end, and there is no funding in place for the remainder of the Governor’s supportive housing pledge. In partnership with other housing advocates, we are relaunching the Campaign 4 NY/NY Housing to advocate for the inclusion of a capital appropriation to finance the remaining 14,000 units, including the next five-year phase of 7,000 units, in the executive budget.

Westhab’s Dayspring Commons Tops Off in Yonkers |

In late November, Westhab topped off their latest project, Dayspring Commons, a 63-unit supportive and affordable development in the Nodine Hill neighborhood of Yonkers. To mark the milestone while heeding public health COVID-19 guidance, a small gathering was held with Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano and Westhab CEO Rich Nightingale.

Update on Important Housing Credit Case and Next Steps |

On December 2nd, The Network partnered with LISC NYC, Enterprise Community Partners, the Association for Neighborhood & Housing Development (ANHD), and the Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH) to host an update briefing for nonprofit members on the RiseBoro Community Partnership Inc’s case against its Low Income Housing Tax Credit investor regarding its ability to exercise a right of first refusal for 420 Stockholm Street in Brooklyn, NY.

The Network, in partnership with Legal Services of New York (LSNY), hosted a training on One Shot Deals. Jack Newton, Director of Public Benefits & LGBTQ Advocacy at LSNY, walked participants through the ins and outs of Emergency Assistance Grants, widely referred to as "One Shot Deals." This workshop discussed strategies for getting One Shot Deals approved, reviewed the prerequisite public benefits necessary to obtain certain Emergency Assistance Grants, and provided opportunities for attendees to apply lessons learned to real-life scenarios.
