Hello Vallejo,
August is off to a hot start in our city. This week has been full of important conversations, community engagement and new opportunities to get involved.
On Monday, the Vallejo Police Department held a community meeting to discuss a recent incident and share updates. At the City Council meeting, the department also spoke about ongoing efforts related to reform changes within the organization. Community members and the council offered various comments, and the City plans to hold another meeting with the City Council so they can have a deeper discussion and keep the public informed as things move forward.

Vallejo’s Brownfield Assessment Project Moves Forward
The City of Vallejo has selected SOCOTEC (formerly Ninyo & Moore) to support environmental assessment and reuse planning for priority brownfield sites on Mare Island and along the Downtown Waterfront.
Funded by a $500,000 U.S. EPA Brownsfields Community-Wide Assessment Grant, this project is an important first step towards creating new possibilities for underused properties and supporting Vallejo’s community and economy.

Safety Day
The Boys and Girls Empowerment Group hosted a powerful Safety Day on July 31 as part of their summer youth camp along Fairgrounds Drive in North Vallejo. The event focused on preventing gun violence and uplifting our community’s youth.
City Manager Black stopped by to show support, along with Solano County Supervisor James, Mayor Sorce, and Councilmembers Matulac and Lediju. Thank you to everyone working to keep Vallejo’s young people informed, empowered, and safe!

Commission on Culture & the Arts Connects with Community
On July 31, members of the Commission on Culture & the Arts participated in the Late Night Basketball program, connecting with local youth through art and creativity. Commissioners shared information about the Commission and the City Council-approved Vallejo Youth Create Asphalt Art for Safer Streets project, and invited youth to draw, create and discuss the role of public art in the community.

How would you make Vallejo even better? Maybe a park needs a refresh, a local non-profit could use funding, or you’ve imagined a beautification or after‑school program that would make a real difference. As a Vallejo resident, you’re the expert — and Participatory Budgeting wants your ideas. Share your suggestions today, and they could become full project proposals on the May/June 2027 PB ballot.

Community Cleanup Removes 4,000 Pounds of Debris
Volunteers from the Solano Sunset Rotary and Life after Life joined forces on July 25 for a major cleanup at the Vallejo Humane Society and adjacent City-owned property.
Together, volunteers transformed the area by collecting 80 bags of debris and removing 4,000 pounds of trash. The cleanup also included the safe removal of hazardous debris and illegal dumping.
Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time to make our community safer and cleaner for both residents and pets!

Vallejo’s Historic Firma Lodge No. 27 Nominated for National Register
Vallejo’s historic Firma Lodge No. 27 will be considered for the National Register of Historic Places on Friday, August 7, at 9 a.m. during the State Historical Resources Commission meeting in Sacramento (Stanley Mosk Library & Courts Building, Room 500).
Today, it is the only surviving original landmark of Vallejo's three foundational Black organizations.
Members of the public can attend the meeting in person or join online to voice support.

August Clear the Shelters Event
Now through August 31, the Humane Society of the North Bay (HSNB) is offering promotional adoption rates for all dogs and cats both on-site and in foster care. Fees are completely waived ($0) for any cat aged one or older, as well as any dog that has been with HSNB for over six months.
