FAST: Our sole mission is a cure

Hi Cure,

Following a very productive fireside chat earlier this month, we’ve put together a detailed recap of the questions and answers, which you can read below!

If you have updates you would like to be included in next week’s newsletter, please email us at info@cureangelman.org.

June Fireside Chat Recap

FAST June 2023 fireside chat - Read the recap! With ideograms showing the UPD, Imprinting Defect, and Mosiac genotypes of AS on the 15th chromosome

Our June fireside chat gathered over 30 participants from around the world to have an intimate discussion around genotypes UPD, ICD, and Mosaic. Because of certain questions that came in prior, we invited Dr. Yong-Hui Jiang from Yale University to join us!

The one-hour chat was filled with valuable information, connections were formed, and questions were answered.

FAST & ASF, along with Ionis and Ultragenyx, presented at the 8th Annual Israeli Angelman Syndrome Foundation Conference last weekend at Sheba Medical Center in Tel Aviv. The Israeli Angelman Syndrome Foundation is led by Eitan Shay and Efrat Rabinovitch, both parents of a child who lives with Angelman syndrome. These two have volunteered their time for over a decade to bring promise and hope to their community. Last weekend marks a big milestone bringing their dedication to fruition.

FAST Athletes: Elizabeth Berry-Kravis

FAST Athletes: Dr. Elizabeth Berry-Kravis, with a photo of Dr. Berry-Kravis running

“I go running, bike to work and go up 7 flights of stairs every day to my office to ensure I will always be in shape and healthy to help get new treatments across the finish line at FDA to improve the lives of those with Angelman syndrome.” - Dr. Elizabeth Berry-Kravis

Dr. Elizabeth Berry-Kravis, the director of the Rush F.A.S.T. Center for Translational Research, is a force to be reckoned with. Her commitment to fighting for the AS community while also ensuring she maintains her own physical well being is not an easy feat – but she does it!

We see Dr. Berry-Kravis as a role model and a good reminder for the community of the importance of taking care of yourself. We need to be our best selves so we can provide the best support for those living with AS.

If you need support, the FAST Athletes are here to help empower you!
