What's new at the library

Immersive Planetarium

For the first weeks of July there will be a Digitarium in the library, an immersive planetarium for all ages to explore! Check out what times and dates the planetarium will be available here.

Community Color-by-Number

We've been painting our way through Starry Night this summer, one number at a time! Great job to the many hands who have brought this masterpiece to life.

South Bend Cubs Challenge

The South Bend Cubs baseball team is offering free tickets to kids who complete at least 30 days of our summer reading program! Kids under 18 who get their 30 day badge will be given a QR code to redeem for free tickets; their parents can purchase adult tickets at a discounted rate. Keep on reading, Middlebury!

Reading to the Moon

With three weeks left of summer reading, we're over halfway to our goal of 7500 reading days! At 967 sign-ups (so far) we have more participants this year than EVER recorded. All this wouldn't be possible without such a wonderful community! So thank YOU for being part of the MPL family.

A big thank you to the partners who have made this summer fun possible with their financial support: First State Bank, Crystal Valley Exchange Club, Grand Design RV, Middlebury Optimists Club, Jayco, and The Friends of the Library

Local astronomer, Sherwood Waggy, leads us in a second family-friendly program this evening to teach us all the ways to seek out the stars above, identify their constellations, and find planets in the summer sky. Plus, we'll explore constellations in the digitarium!

Contra Dance

Friday, July 11th, 6p-8p

We’ll kick off a community dance with a short, friendly workshop from 6-6:30 for newcomers and anyone who wants a refresher.

Then at 6:30, the dance begins! Enjoy live music with the Waterbound string band, easy-to-follow dances, and refreshments to keep you going. No partner or experience needed, and all ages are welcome. Make a date night out of it or bring the whole family for some active Friday-night fun!

Suncatchers at Bonneyville Mill

Saturday, July 12th, 10a

We've spent a lot of time this summer learning about our universe, solar system, planets and stars. The Sun is probably our most important star, so let's celebrate it at the Kum Mol Rie shelter this morning. We'll learn about the longest and brightest day of the year while making suncatchers.

Teen Glow Party

Friday, July 18th, 5p

Let's glllloooowww, friends! Dress in your spiffiest and spaciest fits for an after-hours night of crafts, games, activities, laser tag, and of course... glow-in-the-dark everything.

Furia

by Yamile Saied Mendez

Recommended by Renee

In Rosario, Argentina, Camila Hassan lives a double life.

At home, she is a careful daughter, living within her mother's narrow expectations, in her rising-soccer-star brother's shadow, and under the abusive rule of her short-tempered father.

On the field, she is La Furia, a powerhouse of skill and talent. When her team qualifies for the South American tournament, Camila gets the chance to see just how far those talents can take her. In her wildest dreams, she'd get an athletic scholarship to a North American university.

But the path ahead isn't easy. Her parents don't know about her passion. They wouldn't allow a girl to play fútbol--and she needs their permission to go any farther. And the boy she once loved is back in town. Since he left, Diego has become an international star, playing in Italy for the renowned team Juventus. Camila doesn't have time to be distracted by her feelings for him. Things aren't the same as when he left: she has her own passions and ambitions now, and La Furia cannot be denied. As her life becomes more complicated, Camila is forced to face her secrets and make her way in a world with no place for the dreams and ambition of a girl like her.
