Dea r MBEs and in particular, those who were able to att end the SMSDC Stakeholders Meeting in San Antonio on February 20th,

I am honored to have received your vote of confidence. Thank you for electing me as the MBEIC Chairperson for this two year term. Thank you also to all of those MBEs who could not make it to the meeting, but still joined us via live streaming. Your interest and involvement in the council counts more than you can imagine.

As I mentioned to many of you during our assembly and at other previous encounters, this position is not about one person, but about all MBEs joining efforts and strategizing to accomplish more for the benefit of all. In order to advance business opportunities, in order to take our businesses to the next level and consequently increase the value we offer to member corporations; it would be smarter to do it as a team.

This is therefore a call to action to each and every certified MBE, as one person standing alone is not able to achieve much. But as a group with vision and strategies we can be more effective in advancing our goals. We all know that when we are all actively involved it takes less time and effort to make a difference. My hope is that though our engagement, development and advancement, other small businesses will want to join in our efforts. This can in turn bring more support from corporations, the public sector and other organizations; all of which will help foster a sustainable ecosystem where MBEs can strive, more jobs are created, and everyone does better.

If you are ready to join in our efforts get more involved, attend as many events as you can and become engaged in the Input Committee by volunteering, sharing your ideas, and inviting others to do the same.

The SMSDC is in a privileged position this year as the host council for the 2018 NMSDC Conference & Business Opportunity Fair on October 14-17 in Austin, TX. Let's get ready! We need to prepare ourselves and plan to take an active role in advancing opportunities for OUR council, for MBEs and consequently... for everyone. Let's show the rest of our region and all visiting councils, member corporations and MBEs who will be converging in Austin for this great event, what our businesses, our agencies and our state has to offer. Roll up your sleeves and join in.

Stay tuned for more.

The Importance of NOT Letting your
SMSDC Certification Expire!

We frequently receive frustrating calls by our MBEs telling us their SMSDC/HUB Certification has expired. Once your SMSDC certification expires, ALL MBEs have to begin the entire certification process from the beginning. Please note, WE NO LONGER ACCEPT PAPER APPLICATIONS. ALL certification is now done on-line. There are no exceptions.

For those MBEs in the STATE OF TEXAS, in addition to beginning the entire certification process all over again, the HUB certification, which enables you to bid on contracts, is no longer valid. The HUB certification process is only done once a month. This means for those MBEs in the State of Texas, they will now have to wait an entire month for their HUB certification.

Please make sure to check the expiration date on your SMSDC certification. You will receive an e-mail notification from the AdaptOne portal which looks similar to the image above.

DO NOT ignore this e-mail. It is a courtesy reminder your certification is about to expire.
Please contact Michelle Veloz at
[email protected] .
