Happy Spring!

Youth Venture has had a busy month. We've had many new Venture Teams present at their community panels and launch as official United Way Youth Venture Teams. We've attended and supported Teams' fundraisers. And we are planning our exciting Changemaker Celebration at Wachusett Mountain on June 12. Please read more about that below!

In addition, we are very happy to share that UWYV has two Commonwealth Corps Service Internship (paid) positions currently available!

As always, we appreciate and are very grateful for your continued support of our program. Thank you!

It's Panel Season!

There were 22 Venture Teams that launched across 10 schools from April 1 through May 20! Schools included high schools, middle schools and elementary schools. Combined, the Teams secured $9,725 in seed funding from UWYV to
help get their Ventures off the ground and hold their first fundraisers.

We are extremely proud of all the Venturers who launched this month. Congratulations to Venture Teams from Gardner, Monty Tech, Parker Charter, and Ayer-Shirley high schools, and Sky View, Samoset, Longsjo, and McKay Arts Academy middle schools. We can't forget our youngest Venturers from Frances Drake Elementary and Northwest Elementary. Congratulations to all!

North Central Massachusetts Changemaker Celebration

Join us on June 12 to recognize how the spirit of Changemaking is tipping the culture of MWCC and the two largest school districts in the region. Find out what role your school, business, community organization can play in fostering leadership, teamwork, problem-solving, empathy and the belief that youth can impact change within their communities and themselves, and also how your institution can benefit from social entrepreneurial and self-motivated youth entering the workforce. The celebration will include: light refreshments, sunset sky ride, storytelling, and exploring NCM's ecosystem.

Frances Drake Youth Venture Team 2018 Puts On Hygiene Wars!

Inspired by local Catholic Charities coming to them for help and their own drive to help local needy families, this Venture Team, whose mission is to help people in their community, went above and beyond at Frances Drake Elementary. Student Leadership hosted a “Hygiene War” - a contest at their school to collect donated hygiene items from each grade that would then be given to the local Catholic Charities. With the goal of collecting at least 100 hygiene items per grade, theses student were able to donate 2,788 products to Catholic Charities ! Unbelievable!!
Pace for Paws

This month, Oakmont Regional High School's Venture Paws for Psych hosted a race/walk for residents of North Central MA, and their dogs! Paws for Psych is a Venture that raises money to lessen the cost of therapy dogs for people who need them. While a little rainy and chilly, this student-led event was still a great success, with 60 people in attendance and over $300 raised, it shows just how much these Ventures can impact the world around them.
