  • If your child submitted an activity (like a handmade book, diorama, etc.) to the library for the Summer Reading Program, please pick it up by August 8.

The Holmen Public Library and book drop will be closed for Kornfest from 5 pm on Friday, August 18, until 10 am on Monday, August 21. Have fun and look for us in the parade!

AUGUST PROGRAMS

Let's Play Pretend

Learn early literacy skills through play with Daniel Tiger and other character friends from PBS. This program is geared for ages 0-6, but all ages are welcome. No registration required.


Drop in anytime between 10am-12pm on the following dates:

  • Monday, August 7 - West Salem
  • Thursday, August 10 - Onalaska
  • Saturday, August 12 - Holmen

Read to Rover


Join us for special story times with the Coulee Region Humane Society! A volunteer will visit the library to share a story and an activity. Kids will get the chance to read to a therapy dog. No registration required.

Community-Wide Puzzle Exchange

Have you completed all of your puzzles at home? Ready to swap them out for different ones? Bring them to the Holmen Library for our puzzle exchange!


How It Works


  • Drop off your puzzles at the Holmen Public Library checkout desk between August 21 – August 25.
  • Come back on Saturday, August 26th (between 9am and 1pm) to pick out some new-to-you puzzles to take home!

1920s Dance Lessons

Come learn fun, energetic social dances from the 1920s, including the Charleston! Participants do not need a partner and can attend any or all of the sessions. Taught by Claire Penning and Nikki Balsamo of La Crosse Dance Centre. All ages welcome; children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Register online or in person.

Moments of Happiness: My History with the UW Marching Band

Michael Leckrone, former UW Marching Band Director, will speak at the Onalaska Omni Center as part of our “Floyde’s Senior Moments” fall series. Leckrone will present "Moments of Happiness: My History with the UW Marching Band."


Mike will share an overview, including funny anecdotes and stories, regarding the evolution of the "greatest band in the land." He will discuss his history as an educator, leader, and motivator, and explain the journey of development of the UW Spring Band Concert from a modest performance for 400 loyal fans in 1975, to a three-night extravaganza drawing in more than 35,000 people. You don't want to miss it!
