The school year has flown by. It seems like just yesterday that we connected new ReadingPals pairs between volunteers and students! Now our students have started their summer vacation. Thank you to everyone who purchased a ReadingPals bookpack, attended a Women United ReadingPals fundraiser or donated during The Amazing Give. As a result of your generosity, more than 150 students received a backpack full of books, workbooks and school supplies for the summer!

Our goal is to keep our students reading this summer to prevent the “summer slide.” Students can lose nearly 40 percent of what they’ve learned during the school year when they aren’t engaged in reading during the summer. We want our students to retain everything they’ve learned as a result of the dedication of our ReadingPals volunteers over the past 9 months. The impact they have made has been incredible and worth sharing.

Through our partnership with Girls Place, we’ve extended that impact through a unique peer-mentoring opportunity. Some of our past ReadingPals students are now tutoring younger kindergarten students in ReadingPals. As Junior ReadingPals volunteers, 12 girls are empowered to share the experience and one-on-one literacy support that has been given to them from their peers. We are looking forward to this peer-mentoring opportunity continue and expand to other ReadingPals sites in the coming years.

If you're interested in making a big impact on the lives of these students, please consider becoming a ReadingPals volunteer for this upcoming school year. Click the banner below for more information.
