“No Evidence of Disease”
We were thrilled to see Tony Cornacchia, BCC board member and metastatic bladder cancer survivor, on this week’s Making a Difference with Susan Hay on Global News.
Tony’s story is a brave and inspiring one.

Diagnosed in 2014 at the age of 45, Tony underwent treatments and various surgeries until the fall of 2016 when he went to see his doctors because, as Tony shares, “something just wasn’t feeling right.” When Tony learned that his bladder cancer had advanced to his lymph nodes, the long-term outcomes were grim. In fact, his doctors shared that the survival rate for his advanced type of cancer (Stage IV) to be just 18 months.

But Tony was fortunate enough to be accepted into a clinical trial in Toronto, and a year after beginning treatment, he heard great news: “No evidence of disease”. We are so grateful that Tony is with us today!

Research and clinical trials in Canada are critical in saving the lives of bladder cancer patients, like Tony. Bladder Cancer Canada has invested $2M in research over the past ten years, $4M in free programs for patients, and life-saving campaigns to educate Canadians to See Red, See Your Doctor.

By donating to Canada Walks for Bladder Cancer, you will be helping the 80,000 Canadians living with a bladder cancer diagnosis.

A cool and refreshing drink for after your BCC walk

Try this recipe for cherry lemonade – a cool and refreshing drink for after your BCC walk on September 25 or 26.

Did you know? Lemons are part of Bladder Cancer Canada’s See Red awareness campaign. Our ads, with the bleeding lemon, have been seen all across Canada in bus shelters and digital displays, and caution Canadians that blood in their urine is the most common symptom of bladder cancer. We’ve been told that this messaging has saved countless lives – and bladders – due to early detection of this disease that can be deadly if not caught in time.

You can help spread awareness too – register or donate today at www.bccwalk.ca!
