Tony’s story is a brave and inspiring one.
Diagnosed in 2014 at the age of 45, Tony underwent treatments and various surgeries until the fall of 2016 when he went to see his doctors because, as Tony shares, “something just wasn’t feeling right.” When Tony learned that his bladder cancer had advanced to his lymph nodes, the long-term outcomes were grim. In fact, his doctors shared that the survival rate for his advanced type of cancer (Stage IV) to be just 18 months.
But Tony was fortunate enough to be accepted into a clinical trial in Toronto, and a year after beginning treatment, he heard great news: “No evidence of disease”. We are so grateful that Tony is with us today!
Research and clinical trials in Canada are critical in saving the lives of bladder cancer patients, like Tony. Bladder Cancer Canada has invested $2M in research over the past ten years, $4M in free programs for patients, and life-saving campaigns to educate Canadians to See Red, See Your Doctor.
