Cold, Hard Facts

Congratulations to Pro Bono Attorney Alex Loomis, who successfully briefed and argued a Family Law appeal! Alex's well-thought-out oral argument for the case, his preparation, and his knowledge of the matter led to an excellent result for our Client. Thanks to Alex's incredible appellate advocacy, the Appeals Court found that the Trial Judge's ruling deprived our Client of due process and improperly lowered the child support she received for her three children, all of whom have disabling conditions. The Appeals Court issued a 23-page opinion detailing the lower court judge's errors. In addition, this case win helped warn trial judges of the importance of following the law, especially when dealing with pro se litigants. VLP Housing and Appeals Staff Attorney Caitlyn Treem commended Alex for his dedication. "He is a zealous advocate for our clients, and we're so grateful to him and his team at Quinn Emanuel for their unwavering support."

"I’m thrilled with the result. The Appeals Court correctly reversed the probate court on every one of the many grounds we raised, in a thorough, well-reasoned, and published opinion that will serve as extremely helpful precedent for pro se litigants in future cases. I’m grateful to VLP and to the Client for giving me the opportunity to take this case on." -Alex Loomis, Esq.

Break the Ice

Join us in welcoming new members to our team,

Attorney Alexandra Roman, Aisling Walsh, Gloria Cabrera, and Tania Londono.

Get to know our newest VLPies!

Alexandra Roman, Esq. joined VLP in 2018 as a law school intern, in 2021 as a volunteer for the HILA Landlords program, and in 2023 as a Temporary Staff Attorney for the HILA Landlords program. Alex got her BA in history from UMass Dartmouth in 2017 and her JD from New England Law | Boston in 2020. She works part time for VLP and part time running her own office doing child welfare and delinquency work in the Fitchburg/Leominster area.

Tania Londono graduated from Rutgers University with a B.S. in Public Policy and a minor in Social Justice. Before joining VLP, she worked as an Intake Coordinator for a financial assistance fund in Mass Jobs with Justice's immigration program. Tania interned as a Community Relations Associate for IINE, a refugee resettlement agency. She has experience as an interpreter assisting Spanish-speaking patients. Tania is passionate about gaining knowledge of the law while informing others of their rights. Her areas of interest include racial, labor/economic, and environmental justice.

Gloria Cabrera graduated from Salem State University with a BS in Criminal Justice in 2022 and will receive her MS in Criminal Justice in the spring. Before joining VLP, Gloria interned at the Boston Court service center, where she mainly helped Spanish-speaking litigants fill out court documents.  The Court Service Center is a valuable resource for unrepresented litigants and court users and is a close community partner of VLP.  Gloria's work at the CSC was great preparation for her role as a Bilingual Intake Specialist.

Aisling Walsh is a Criminal and Social Justice major at Boston College and will graduate in May 2023. In 2022, Aisling worked as a Legal Intern at VLP and accepted a full-time position shortly after. Before her time at VLP, Aisling worked for the Massachusetts Department of Correction in the Victim Services Unit and a law firm in the Boston area as a per-diem Legal Assistant. In her free time, Aisling enjoys spending time with her two dogs, Booboo and Biscuit, discovering new coffee shops, and spending time outdoors.

We are so thrilled to have them on board! If you, or someone you know, are interested in joining the VLP team, you can check out our open positions here.
