Building the Future - Data Infrastructure Understanding and Planning

Building the Foundation: Digital Literacy Impacting OSCRE’s Data Infrastructure Focus

Over the next few months, you’ll be hearing a lot about OSCRE’s initiative to build a robust data infrastructure in real estate. For example, we are in the middle of a series of 4 Innovations Forums on the topic. May introduced the focus. June is about the role of platforms. August takes a stakeholder perspective. October will address implementation. The terms and tools we’re presenting in this digital literacy segment will help you and your team get better grounded in the basics. This month we focus on 3 terms that will have increasing meaning as you and your organization plan your digital future.

Digital Operating Vision is a roadmap for an organization's future digital capabilities. This vision outlines the desired state for organizational, technical and analytical capabilities. The method will be useful for organizations considering a shift towards building a robust a data infrastructure in real estate. The following is an example where a global corporate real estate organization used a new digital operating vision to steer development of those new digital capabilities.

Medallion Data Architecture – emerging as a leading practice for improving the quality of data. It is a data design pattern used to organize data based on increasing levels of data quality and usability. It is commonly applied in a data lakehouse environment where it logically structures data into 3 distinct layers (Bronze, Silver, and Gold) progressively improving quality and usability as data moves through each stage. The approach streamlines the process of refining raw data into analytics-ready datasets. Data quality practices like this will be pivotal to effective implementation of a new data infrastructure.

Technical architecture is one of the first things OSCRE is working on as part of building a robust data architecture for real estate. It refers to the design and structure of technology components of the new infrastructure. It provides the framework and guidelines for an entire technology landscape, typically within an organization, while it also applies to your whole ecosystem. Technical architects will focus on the role of multiple technologies, their interactions, and how they fit together within the overall ecosystem. Look for more on this in future OSCRE newsletters and events.

What the Poll Says: Deploying Smart Software Strategies

The results of our May newsletter poll show us the diverse needs from businesses and a collective recognition of the importance of modern data infrastructure—not just as a technical upgrade, but as a strategic enabler of operational efficiency, interoperability, and long-term agility. This brings to light more of what we're covering in the OSCRE Innovation Forum for June where we'll discuss more on software platforms and their role in the future of an industry data infrastructure.

We Want to Hear From You...

This month’s poll sets us up for the August Innovation Forum on stakeholder perspectives. Which is your organization’s biggest challenge in integrating data from the supply chain?

Innovation Forum Series - Continuing in August

OSCRE’s Innovation Forum series continues today at 11AM EST with our June Forum session, focused on the role of software platforms in building a robust data infrastructure in real estate. This is the second in our four-part series spotlighting different aspects of the digital shift underway in our industry.

While we’re taking a short break in July, we’ll return on August 20th from 11–12PM EST for the third Innovation Forum in the series: Building a Robust Data Architecture in Real Estate – A Stakeholders’ Perspective.

This session will explore what stakeholders across the real estate ecosystem will both contribute to and be impacted by the shift toward more integrated and scalable data infrastructures in the real estate industry. The panel will share their perspectives on how the landscape for data management is changing and how evolving data practices are reshaping organizational responsibilities, enabling more open collaboration, and introducing greater rigor throughout the data supply chain.

You’ll gain insight into:

  • The roles stakeholders play in enabling a robust data infrastructure
  • How business operations will evolve with a new infrastructure in place
  • The collaborations needed to build a shared data ecosystem
  • Where standards and data models fit into the long-term picture

Join data and business leaders already aligning their strategies with these emerging demands. Register to secure your spot for August’s Forum.

From the Director's Desk

The world of real estate and infrastructure is changing fast, especially with new data and technology. At OSCRE, our main goal is to help you keep up by providing clear data standards. These standards make things more efficient, help you make better decisions, and spark new ideas.

Over the last few months, we've been focused on growing digital literacy through our communication and education channels. This is about ensuring everyone has the knowledge and tools to use data and technology effectively.

Your input through our polls and events is super helpful, and it shows how much we can achieve together. Looking ahead, we have exciting events like our July gathering in New York and the August Innovation Forum. These are great chances to connect and learn.

Thanks for helping us push data standards forward. We're building a more connected and efficient future, together.
