Dear DCI Community:
At DCI, we stand firmly against any policies or actions that seek to undermine the dignity and rights of any member of our community. Our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is not just a statement — fostering a socially just community is a fundamental part of who we are and how we serve our students. Every child deserves to learn in an environment where they feel seen, respected, and supported, and every staff member deserves a workplace that honors their identity and contributions.
The most recent federal executive orders have targeted issues around race, documented status, and the LGBTQ+ community, specifically transgender and non-binary people. DCI is firmly invested in making sure our students learn in classrooms with historical accuracy when learning about race, language, gender, and LGBTQ+ life. We will not adjust our curricula out of fear or in an effort to whitewash history. Policies, practices, and coursework at DCI will be maintained as is and will continue to provide students with a well-rounded, inquiry-focused educational experience that sets them up to be caring global citizens.
Now more than ever, it is critical that we continue to foster a culture of belonging. Let’s be intentional in affirming our students and staff, creating inclusive spaces, and ensuring our policies and practices reflect our values. If any student, family, or colleague needs support, let’s make sure they know they are not alone – we are here for them.
In that same spirit, we also want to reaffirm our commitment to protecting and supporting our students and families with undocumented status, as well as those who are part of the broader immigrant community. We recognize that many other groups in our school community may feel under attack by the current administration’s policies and rhetoric, and we want to be clear: DCI is a place of safety, agency, and belonging. We will continue to stand by our students and families, ensuring that our school remains a place where all can learn, grow, and thrive without fear.
