California’s sportfishing industry is facing a real and imminent threat. The cost of fishing off a sportfishing boat could more than double if state regulators get their way.
The Newsom Administration has proposed engine regulations that will require sportfishing boat owners to either rebuild their boat hulls to account for major engine modifications or buy new boats, starting by 2023 and not when the lifespan of the boat or their engines have expired. Yes, that’s right. Less than 18-months from now!
These regulations are so impractical and so costly many boat owners will out of business within 3-6 years after the new regulations are implemented. What’s more, the cost of these regulations would have to be passed on to customers – more than doubling the price of tickets.
All around, these regulations are so unfair and so unreasonable.
As boat owners go out of business fishing will become more costly and off-shore fishing will become less accessible. This is why we are calling on our valued customers to join an online petition that calls on Governor Gavin Newsom to ‘Save Sportfishing.’
