GCAAR Testifies at Gaithersburg Hearing on New Sign Ordinance

On Monday, February 3 the City of Gaithersburg held a hearing on a proposed update to their Sign Ordinance regulations in the City Code. Gaithersburg is looking to update their regulations in light of a recent Supreme Court decision r egarding sign statutes.

Signage is critical to the real estate industry. Any regulation that would hinder the free flow of commercial information to the public would have an economic impact and would be a disservice to both current and potential City residents.

GCAAR's testimony can be read here . We will continue to work with the City of Gaithersburg to ensure that the real estate industry can serve their current and prospective residents.

GCAAR in Annapolis: School Boundary Disclosure Bill Passes with REALTOR ® Amendments

In November 2019 a bill was introduced to the Montgomery County Delegation regarding notice of school boundary regulations & real estate advertisements.

Over the last few months GCAAR has worked to curb the effects on REALTORS ® as well as improve the information available to a buyer. After many hearings and GCAAR requested amendments, the legislation passed out of the County Delegation. It will now move on to the regular legislative process.

Real Estate Professionals Amendment Act of 2019 Passes DC Council

One of the DCAR's current legislative priorities, Accounting Clarification for Real Estate Professionals Amendment Act of 2019, was passed by the DC Council this week. This bill would remove a technical hurdle and allow licensed real estate professionals to receive commission payments directly to their legal LLC.

It now moves to the Mayor for approval. If she signs off on it, the final step before implementation is Congressional approval - which is expected in early spring.
