REAL ID for Installation Access Coming Soon
As we begin to prepare for peak season it is of upmost importance that your crews and drivers are able to service shipments on base. To gain unescorted access to a Department of Defense (DoD) installation, all individuals must meet three criteria:
Identity - Typically accomplished through presentation of appropriate government-issued credentials. Note that effective May 8, 2025, full enforcement of REAL ID will begin. SDDC has released guidance that can be read here.
Fitness - The guest must have no outstanding warrants, convictions for disqualifying offenses, terror connections, or other conditions that would make a person a risk to the installation or personnel. Typically accomplished through an on-the-spot records (background) check at the gate.
Purpose – A demonstrated need to gain access to the installation. This can be accomplished through bill of lading or work order.
Entry on to the installation can take some time, and it may be beneficial to contact them and find out what steps can be taken to speed up the process.
