This Sunday we welcome the Rev. Fred Whitehurst. His sermon is entitled "Rebirthed by
Love" and is based on Bible passages from Romans 8:12-17 and John 3:1-17.
Mr. Whitehurst resides in Manalapan and is a hospice chaplain. He is a native of New Bern, N.C., he attended Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia and was ordained in 1996. He served at the Hapeville Presbyterian Church in Atlanta for nine years until 2009.
The Chancel Choir will be singing traditional Memorial Day anthems.
Don't forget to bring your loose change. We will be celebrating "Noisy Offering" for Cents-Ability which supports ministries to relieve hunger locally, regionally, and globally.

Interfaith Hospitality Network Arriving June 3 - NEXT WEEK
Families in the IHN program will be arriving here on June 3. We are in need of volunteers to help with setup and take down, provide dinner meals, visit with families in the evening, stay overnight in the Annex with the families, as well as launder bed linen at the end of the week. Only half of the slots are filled.
Sign up sheets are in the back. Dorothy Tolley would appreciate any help you can provide. Please speak with her if you have any questions. We are glad to say our church has been a faithful host church for IHN for many years.
Dine Around - Coming Up on Wednesday
Presbyterian Women are all invited to meet at the Shrimp Box at 75 Inlet Drive, Pt. Pleasant on Wednesday, May 30th, as we continue our 'dine-around' experience.
A mid-week, uplifting time to share a meal and fellowship with other PWs!
We're getting the Shrimp Box in early because summer crowds will soon keep us waiting too long and we'll move further inland to dine. We'll meet about 6:15 so please call Lynn Hahm at 732-929-7133, or Maggie Giaise 732-295-0908 if you can join us and we'll reserve space.
If you're not sure till the last minute just come anyway and we'll make room! Hope to see lots of you there.
Once again we will be recognizing those celebrating a milestone wedding anniversary as well as membership milestones on Sunday, June 17, 2018.
Are you having an anniversary 50 years or more, either a wedding or of church membership, that we may not be aware of? If so, please call the church office so we can be sure your name is included.
Attention Class of 2018
PPPC would like to recognize all those students who will be graduating from college or high school this year. If you know of someone graduating from high school or college, please let us know.
You can drop a note with their name and the school where they are graduating from in the offering plate, or call/email (firstname.lastname@example.org) the church office with the information. Our graduates will be recognized in the bulletin on June 17.
Can you help us this Tuesday at 3 p.m.?
Point Beach will be having bulk pickup on May 30. The day before, on Tuesday, May 29
several people have volunteered to help put items out from our buildings. We still can use more volunteers beginning after 3:00 p.m. There will be large and smaller items that we need help with moving.
Point Beach is wonderful in taking all kinds of items at no cost to the church. Through New Beginnings it was suggested that decluttering our buildings would be a great benefit to our church. This is a great opportunity for us to get these items out of the way and work together. All ministries of the church are encouraged to go through their items and purge any unused items.
Summer Bible Study
At the request of many of you there will be a Summer Bible study. By popular demand,
we will use a book we have used before called "Embracing Forgiveness." This is a 5 week study that will be held on each Monday during the month of July. The first class will be July 2nd at 10:00 a.m.
If you would like us to order a book for you for $10, please let Linda Chase know or you may order yours directly
Something to Pray About
Each year the congregation elects a Nominating Committee. The Nominating Committee seeks and presents to the congregation a slate of names to be elected to the office of Elder or Deacon
The Nominating Committee selects
* People to serve as the next year's class of ruling elders and deacons
* People to serve as ruling elders and deacons, filing vacancies left in unexpired terms
* People to serve on the next year's Nominating Committee
The presentation of the nominees is made at a Congregational Meeting scheduled for Sunday, June 24 immediately following worship.
Perhaps you would like your name to be considered for nomination as either a Ruling elder or Deacon. Both Ruling Elders and Deacons serve for three-year terms. When a term is completed, the person is eligible to be re-nominated for one additional term.
Officer training for both Elders and Deacons will take place in July. Additional training is offered in January through Monmouth Presbytery "Equipping the Saints."
Ruling Elders should be persons of strong faith, dedicated disciples, and love Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. The Session meets on the third Tuesday of each month, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Elders chairing committees also organize committee meetings. There are also occasional special called meetings of Session to receive new members and the confirmation class, usually on a Sunday morning, or, if needed, to deal with a major subject for which there is insufficient time at its regular meeting (e.g. the budget).
Deacons should be "Persons of spiritual character, honest repute, of exemplary lives, brotherly and sisterly love, warm sympathies and sound judgement should be chosen for this office." (G-6.0401). As persons demonstrating a ministry of sympathy and service on behalf of the church, deacons should have the time and inclination to reach out to members with particular needs, visiting them in their homes and otherwise extending the love of Christ to them. Deacons meet the first Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m.
If you would like to be considered as a Ruling Elder or Deacon, please
or call the church office with your name and contact information.
Special Communion Brunch - 10 Year Anniversary
Next Sunday will be the 10th Anniversary of the Communion Brunch. Since June 1,
2008 the Kitchen Team has been preparing delicious food for us all to enjoy together. The fun and fellowship over the years has strengthened us as a church.
Since the beginning, a
free-will offering has been continually received, to cover expenses. Any money left over will support missions. Back in 2008 the Communion Brunch supported the church's summer mission trip workers.
Ten years later it will be no different. Any money left over next Sunday will go to support both Karen Norby and Susan Beltran on their mission trips to Africa this Summer.
Karen Norby will be going to Uganda on June 13-26, with the nonprofit organization, Sylvia's Children. Following Karen's trip, Susan
Beltran will be heading to Nairobi on June 27-July 13 with the non profit Foundation for Peace.
Thank you to everyone who has supported them all already. Karen was able to collect many instruments and Susan will be bringing 100 bags made by Busy Hands!
Plan on coming to this grand celebration next Sunday following church. On that Sunday the kitchen crew will be making a special Father's Day breakfast of steak and eggs and other special surprises. Be sure to also thank the Kitchen team for their faithful service to our church. God is good!
This Week at Point Beach Prep
This week we learned numbers 7 and 8. We are counting in English and Spanish!
Our Nursery class focused on the authors Jane Yolen and Mark Teague. They read How Do Dinosaurs Say Good Night?, How Do Dinosaurs Say I'm Mad? and How Do Dinosaurs Stay Friends? Some of their activities were making dinosaur footprints, going on a Dino hunt, counting gumballs and working on a Father's Day gift.
Our Pre-k class read Snow White and the Seven Dwarves,Spiders, and Memorial Day. Their projects included 7 Days of the Week, Color by Number, and a Spider. They sang There Are 7 Days in a Week,Heigh-Ho!,The Number Rock, and 1-2-3 Spanish.
The children enjoyed putting the boat back into the classroom in the Dramatic Play area. They were pretending to be pirates, fisherman and cruise captains! They were also on the lookout for sharks! While pretending may just look like "playing", it is integral to the developmental learning process. It should be encouraged, and our students are given lots of opportunities to engage in it!
