A Note From Our Executive Director, Maury Peterson
Hello Friends,
Our volunteers truly are the heart and soul of Rebuilding Together Montgomery County. I am always amazed when I meet volunteers and ask how long they have been involved with our mission and I hear “5 years”, “10 years” or even “20 years”. I have been even more astounded by the number of volunteers who I meet who tell me “Since Day 1” – which equals 30+ years! These long-time volunteers are RTMC’s Wisdom Keepers – they embody our mission and their passion to serve our neighbors in need is inspiring and contagious.
I would like to recognize and introduce you to Lance Wolin, Bob Quinn and Jerry Liu, three fabulous RTMC Wisdom Keepers (pictured above left to right), have nearly 100 years of RTMC volunteer service between them!
Lance Wolin, Executive Vice President at Donohoe Construction Company, currently serves as our Board Vice President. Over the past 30+ years, Lance has done it all from site volunteer to House Captain, to galvanizing his Donohoe Construction team to take on annual Rebuilding Day projects.
Bob Quinn, Financial Advisor at Northwestern Mutual, has served in various roles over the last 30+ years including House Captain, Board Member, Board President and RTMC golfer. Bob is also an active member of Christ Episcopal Church and their Kiwanis Club, which have been active supporters of RTMC.
Jerry Liu, President of DG Liu Contractor, is a jack of all trades and he's done everything from coordinating construction projects to providing ongoing counsel to our team. He's served as a RTMC Board Member, a House Captain, and is a two-time national Rebuilding Together Volunteer of the Year.
These amazing gentlemen are true servant leaders and we are so fortunate to have them on the RTMC Team! Thank you, Lance, Bob and Jerry for the many ways you serve our mission!
You can read more below about how they are helping with final preparations for our RTMC Rebuilding Day on September 11 & 12. We are also gearing up for our Annual RTMC Golf Tournament on October 4th at Bretton Woods. We hope that you will join us as we raise vital funds for our mission of Repairing Homes, Revitalizing Communities, Rebuilding Lives. As always, we are grateful for your partnership.

Helping Improve the Health & Safety of Ms. Z.'s Home
RTMC Homeowner Client, Ms. Z., is a senior citizen who has lived in her current home for over 30 years. She lives alone and continues to work to pay her mortgage and bills. Ms. Z. reached out to RTMC when her HVAC system broke down and she did not have the funds for the expensive repair. With the help from Mario Granados, contractor partner from Transformation Contractors, LLC and Mat Saunders, RTMC Home Assessment & Project Coordinator (pictured above), we were able to replace the HVAC system and restore the air conditioning. We also installed railings and grab bars throughout the house and repaired several improperly wired electrical outlets. Ms. Z. is very grateful for RTMC’s help and happy to have proper lighting in her bedrooms and living room and a cool house where her grandchildren can now visit and play comfortably in her home.

Celebrating Joni Keaton,
RTMC AmeriCorps Client Outreach Coordinator
We celebrate Joni Keaton, RTMC AmeriCorps Client Outreach Coordinator, who will complete her 11-month AmeriCorps Service term this week! Joni is a STAR and has made a tremendous impact at RTMC over the last year. One example can be seen in the photos above from the recent service project Joni led to build a new sidewalk for a young man who has muscular dystrophy and uses a wheelchair.
As the Client Outreach Coordinator, Joni has been the first point of contact for our homeowners and always brings her signature kindness and compassion to every interaction. She has done a phenomenal job of building trust and partnership with the neighbors in need we serve -- it is clear that our homeowners love her dearly! While we will greatly miss Joni in her current role, we are delighted that Joni will transition to a new staff role as RTMC’s Development and Communication Coordinator. Thank you, Joni, for your service and congratulations on your new role!

Gearing Up for RTMC Rebuilding Day
We recently held our RTMC Rebuilding Day Kickoff Breakfast for our House Captains and House Ambassadors who will lead the rebuilding charge at 13 homes across from county on RTMC Rebuilding Day September 11 & 12. The breakfast was a great opportunity to bring our community together, discuss the goals of the event, and share event details and supplies. The highlight of the morning was hearing from three of our Wisdom Keepers: Lance Wolin, Bob Quinn and Jerry Liu. Special thanks to Christ Episcopal Church in Kensington for hosting and to our Board members and volunteers for coming out. Onward to RTMC Rebuilding Day weekend on September 11 & 12!
