Our Mission:
Repairing Homes, Revitalizing Communities, Rebuilding Lives
A Note From Our Executive Director, Maury Peterson
Hello Friends,

Rebuilding Together Montgomery County's new fiscal year began July 1st and we are already off to a very busy start! Our goal is to provide critical home repairs and accessibility modifications to 150 vulnerable homeowners this fiscal year (July 1, 2021 – June 30, 2022). Our work will impact over 350 neighbors in need and help to improve the health and safety of their homes.

We are gearing up for two special events. The first is our RTMC Rebuilding Day on September 11 & 12, where 14 volunteer groups, including Donohoe Construction (pictures above at a previous Rebuilding Day event), will provide critical enhancements for more than a dozen low-income homeowners. The second is our Annual RTMC Golf Tournament on October 4th at Bretton Woods - please see below for more information. We hope that you will join us as we raise vital funds for our mission of Repairing Homes, Revitalizing Communities, Rebuilding Lives.

Did you know that the average annual income for the homeowners we serve is $22,000? For our clients, the need for our services has never been greater and we have a long waiting list. I know that together, with our amazing team of supporters -- our Board, RTMC Staff Team, volunteers, donors and friends -- we will achieve our ambitious goals and meet the demand. After all, #WeAreRebuilders!
All the best,
Maury Peterson Signature

RTMC Loves Our Contractor Partners!
Special thanks to our partners at Mallick Plumbing & Heating for providing emergency plumbing repair to our homeowner, Ms. G., a single mom of two. She found her toilet clogged and unusable. The water was rushing down her stairs and pooling in her basement, causing a very unsafe situation. We called our friends at Mallick Plumbing & Heating and they quickly arrived to Mrs. G.'s home and fixed the toilet and stopped the flooding.
There's No Place Like Home - Helping a Neighbor Breathe Easy in a Healthy Home
Ms. K. is a homeowner living in Montgomery Village who is severely allergic to mold. She reached out to RTMC when the mold buildup in her home became so severe that she was unable to stay in her home for long periods of time due to difficulty breathing. Instead, Ms. K. was forced to live and sleep primarily in her car. After assessing her home and learning that her 20+ years old HVAC unit was the source of the mold, we set out to replace the system. Because Ms. K. had an unusual type of HVAC unit that few companies work on, we struggled to find available resources for her home. Our partners at Cool Breeze Plumbing, Heating & A/C saved the day when we learned that they could work on Ms. K.’s unit! They installed a brand new unit in her home, removing the old unit and with it the mold that had so negatively impacted her life. Ms. K. no longer spends her days in her car, instead she's enjoying long stretches inside her home, where she is now able to live and breathe freely.
Helping a Neighbor in Need Return Home Safely
Homeowner Ms. M., age 70, recently found herself in a scary situation when she woke up from routine back surgery and learned that an issue during the procedure had resulted in her left leg becoming paralyzed. Up until this point, Ms. M. has been extremely mobile and independent and these new circumstances resulted in a difficult transition period for her. Having lived for many years in her townhome with steps leading up to the front door, Ms. M. called RTMC from the rehabilitation center where she was temporarily staying, panicked that she would be unable to enter and exit her home now that she was wheelchair bound. Our RTMC team rushed out that afternoon to assess the situation. Our team determined that the best option would be to extend the deck off the back entrance of her home and build a ramp leading up to it. Our partners at Get-A-Grip Construction Services came out shortly after to begin the project, and thanks to their expertise and swift work, Ms. M. was able to return to her home with dignity and ease.

It's the Little Things that Mean A Lot!
Rebuilding Together Montgomery County is dedicated to helping to protect the existing affordable housing stock in our community and to ensure our neighbors in need can safely remain in their homes. Sometimes the repairs we made are big, like a new roof or HVAC system. Sometimes the repairs are small, like installation of a grab bar in a shower or the repair of window screens, like we provided to Mrs. A. (pictured above).

RTMC works diligently to raise the funds needed to make these critical repairs. Just like our repairs, donations big and small make a difference. We are grateful to our donors and invite you to support our mission at whatever level you can. Thank you!
