A Note From Our Executive Director, Maury Peterson

Hello Friends,
October certainly was a busy month for Rebuilding Together Montgomery County! We kicked off the month with a hugely successful 2021 RTMC Golf Tournament at Bretton Woods. Special thanks to Tournament Sponsors Miller & Long Concrete Construction and Carey’s Mechanical LLC and the more than 60 companies and groups that sponsored the event. Together, our supporters broke a fundraising record! The proceeds will allow us to provide critical home repairs to neighbors in need who are waiting for our services.
I’d also like to give a shout out to our Program Team, Lindsay Luhn, Mat Saunders, Karen Kozopas and Joni Keaton, for their hard work implementing our Safe & Healthy Home Program. Our goal is to serve 150 homeowners this fiscal year and the team just celebrated our 50th project completion! You can read more about some of our inspiring homeowners and the repairs provided below.
Please mark your calendar for National Rebuilding Day 2022: April 30 and May 1, 2022. We are seeking sponsors and volunteers from area companies and faith-based groups to take part. See the link at the end of the newsletter for more information and ways you can help.
As always, your partnership is much appreciated! Thank you for supporting our mission and making the work of Rebuilding Together Montgomery County possible.

Helping Our Homeowners with Critical Home Repairs
|

Ms. H., pictured above with Mat Saunders, RTMC Home Assessment & Project Coordinator, is a senior citizen and long-time resident of Silver Spring. Every time a big storm came through, Ms. H., would find up to three inches of standing water spread out over the entire basement floor. With the help of RTMC contractor partner, VAQ Renovations, they were able to dig down to the bottom of her retaining wall and waterproof the entire area. They also installed a drain on the outside of the wall to help move water away from the house, added a layer of brick to block ground water from flowing down toward the basement and replaced the damaged walkway. The next time it rains, Ms. H. will rest easy knowing that she no longer has to worry about the basement flooding.

RTMC Homeowner, Ms. S., pictured above lives alone with her adventurous cat, Peake, in Montgomery Village. When squirrels started appearing in her attic as uninvited guests, RTMC took action to replace her rotted exterior attic trim. We also replaced and painted more front trim and secured her deck so that it would once again be safe for her to walk on. Ms. S. is a creative soul and owns her own tie-dye business. She is excited to soon be attending her first craft show since the start of the pandemic! RTMC is delighted that we were able to improve the health and safety of Ms. S.’s home.

RTMC Homeowners, Mr. and Mrs. C., have been living in their Silver Spring home for 35 years. When they were younger, they enjoyed tackling home repair projects themselves. As they have gotten older, however, they have found it difficult to keep up with the mounting demands of home maintenance. After they noticed water entering the home from multiple places, RTMC’s contractor partner, Central Exteriors, stepped in and replaced their roof, installed new gutters and replaced rotting fascia around the exterior of the home. The C.’s are delighted that they will now be able to remain safe, dry and warm for years to come. Mr. C. is pictured above with Joni Keaton, RTMC Development & Communications Coordinator, and Mat Saunders, RTMC Home Assessment & Project Coordinator.
