Owen's Condition for Tuition
- This program began in 2011 by our donor, Joshua Owen and his family.
- Our highest number of participants was in 2018-19 with a total of 6,928 people.
- That same year, we had our record number of finishers at 1,014 participants.
- We typically have a 14% finisher rate, however, the most recent academic year we had our highest ever finisher rate at 17%.
- We are getting close to our pre-pandemic record and hope to break the record number of finishers this year! We are counting on you to help us get there!
While the opportunity to win a semester of paid tuition is a big catch, the program offers tremendous benefits in many ways far greater than the prizes. Impact statements from last year’s participants:
“At the beginning of the semester I heard about the Condition for Tuition at the wellness center at campus and I was very curious about it. I took the courage to go by myself at the beginning of the semester and use the campus gym to accomplish my routine for the day. The more often I went the more I felt confident as a freshmen to be at campus and be around other people since at first it felt very intimidating. Thanks to the motivation of participating at the Condition for Tuition I gained confidence and improved my wellness in my first year at CSULB.”

“It has made me feel more connected to the school and supported by the school. In addition, it makes me want to improve my health and wellness for myself. It also has helped me connect with other students on campus at the gym!!”
-Alexis Li
“Owen's Condition for Tuition has been an amazing opportunity for students to have an incentive for going to the SRWC! I think a strong body and mind are a huge component to individual success and well-being which Owen's Condition for Tuition promotes!”
-Thomas Seibel
“It taught me how to manage my time well especially because I have a lot on my plate. It also taught me how to keep my goals in check at least for a bit before the semester picked up. Overall it taught me to manage my time, work hard in and outside of the gym, and that sometimes sweating it out is the best way to get rid of stress.”
