RECALL SURVEY RESULTS

Last week, California Target Book conducted an informal survey of subscribers and others active in California politics about the proposed recall campaign aimed at Governor Newsom.

Politico covered our results in their California Playbook:

HANDICAPPING THE RECALL: Our friends at the California Target Book polled how fellow California politics obsessives see the recall effort playing out, and the consensus is good news for Newsom.
  • The 138 responding insiders resoundingly agree that the recall will qualify: a whopping 95 percent saw it as somewhat or very likely.

  • But two-thirds said Newsom would likely hold onto his office.

  • Still, they were under no illusion that the governor’s stock has dropped: 84 percent said they believe Newsom’s support among voters has fallen during the pandemic.

SIGNATURES
Proponents of the effort to recall Gov. Gavin Newsom announced in a press conference this weekend they had reached 1,950,000 signatures. Proponents are aiming to wrap up signature collection on Wednesday.

FINANCES
Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon contributed $10,000 via his ballot measure committee to Caregivers and Californians United Against the Recall of Governor Newsom, the independent expenditure committee funded by the National Union of Healthcare Workers.

NEWS
With the recall on the cusp of qualifying, 2020 California Democratic presidential primary winner Bernie Sanders took to Twitter this morning to voice his strenuous opposition to the effort.
