Oceanside Independence Parade Recap


This year’s parade was one of our most successful yet, attracting an estimated 15,000–20,000 attendees to Downtown Oceanside to see 108 parade entries. We’re thankful to all 100 volunteers, sponsors, and community partners who made the day so memorable. View parade photos and videos here!

MiraCosta Dual Enrollment Data Science Club


Four students from Oceanside High School participated in a paid summer internship, conducting a study focused on the Sunset Market and downtown economic vitality.

Taste of Oceanside Returns October 4–5

Community Voices: Key Takeaways


We thank everyone who took part in our Community Voices sessions. Your feedback highlighted the following priorities:

  • “Keeping it Clean” - Improve Downtown Infrastructure and Maintenance 
  • “People Movement” - Optimize Wayfinding and Transportation Solutions 
  • “Authentic Experiences” - Invest in Arts, Culture, and Unique Local Experiences 
  • “Community Collaboration Hub” - Foster Community Engagement and Communication
  • “Safe and Secure” - Enhance Public Safety and Accessibility 
  • “Focus on Community Vitality” - Business Development and Activation 

Community Announcements


  • Esmeralda Gonzalez, from Councilmember Eric Joyce’s office, announced that the August 6 City Council meeting agenda includes permit parking in the Topeka Street neighborhood, the Eddie Jones project, the selection of an operator for the navigation center, and the 401 Mission Avenue site project.
  • Elizabeth Carlson from the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce announced upcoming events, including a networking mixer at Coomber Craft Wines on August 6, the North County Health & Wellness Fair scheduled for September 14, and the Oceanside Heroes Luncheon set for September 26. 
  • Robin announced the Oceanside Longboard Surf Club’s 40th annual Surf Contest and Beach Festival happening this weekend – August 8-10.
  • Tom DeMooy reminded everyone that the Oceanside Pacific Kiwanis Club meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays at 7:30 a.m. at the Broken Yolk Café. The club’s annual Spaghetti Dinner & Fundraiser is scheduled for October 25.
  • Brigid Parsons announced that the Oceanside Cultural District, in collaboration with the Arts Commission, is accepting applications for arts grants ranging from $1,500 to $10,000 until August 15. 
  • Larry Brian announced that Eleanor Evans is advocating for the creation of a Key Club (a service organization that offers leadership training and is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club) at Oceanside High School.
  • George Francis reported that the Oceanside Kiwanis Club assembled 100 full backpacks for Stand Up for Kids for homeless teens, along with 100 six-packs of new underwear and socks each. The local club spends about $25,000 annually on children in Oceanside. 
  • Steve Burrell announced he is working with the city on a disaster preparedness project. He mentioned that the city has applied for a government grant for the Safe Streets initiative.
  • Linda Pena reminded everyone that Carla & Linda’s Local Tours can also host birthday parties and team-building events.
