March 2022
While November may be the official month for giving thanks, we’ve had so much to be grateful for throughout March. We kicked off the month with our 2022 Los Angeles Builders Ball. It was wonderful to be back in person celebrating and thanking the contributors, partners, and supporters who make our work possible.

Last week, we were thrilled to share about the unprecedented donation gifted to Habitat for Humanity International and 84 Habitat affiliates across the nation, by author, philanthropist, and changemaker MacKenzie Scott. Habitat LA is beyond grateful to have received a transformational gift of $20 million, which will help us to accelerate our impact across key strategic programs.

Also, in honor of Women’s History Month, a special shout-out to the talented and dedicated women of Habitat LA. 💐 We are grateful to you every month!

How the funding will help to expand and accelerate our work
In her largest publicly disclosed gift to date, MacKenzie Scott has donated $436 million to Habitat for Humanity, including 84 local Habitat for Humanity affiliates across the United States.

Habitat LA received a historic $20 million dollar donation, the largest single donation in our affiliate’s history. “We are immensely grateful to Ms. Scott for her tremendous generosity and confidence in our work,” said Habitat LA President and CEO, Erin Rank, adding that the extraordinary gift will help hundreds of people move into safe, secure and affordable homes sooner than planned.

That’s a Wrap!
Scenes from the 2022 Los Angeles Builders BallÂź
Following months of anticipation, the Habitat LA team was excited to welcome back our partners, donors, supporters, and honored guests to the Los Angeles Builders BallÂź. We gathered in person at The Beverly Hilton Hotel to celebrate the organizations and individuals that make our work possible.

We were happy to honor Builder of the Year, Clark Construction, Foundation Builder, City National Bank, and Dream Builder, Chandra Wilson—actor, director, and long-time Habitat LA partner. We also shared the inspirational story of Yvette, who achieved her dream of homeownership, through a moving video chronicling her journey. A spirited in-person auction had guests bidding on unique prizes including the ultimate Los Angeles sports fan package and tickets to see Katy Perry in concert.

The festive evening that began on the red carpet concluded with guests grooving to the sounds of Morris Day and The Time!

Engaging Valley Faith Leaders
How we’re partnering to serve additional communities
The Habitat LA faith team recently gathered (virtually) with partners in the San Fernando, Santa Clarita, and Antelope Valleys. Nine congregations from diverse faith and spiritual backgrounds joined members of our staff via Zoom to learn more about our work. It was the first in a series of meetings designed to encourage area faith communities to join together in ministry with Habitat LA through prayer, volunteering, fundraising, educating, and advocating.

Habitat LA has a long history of partnering with communities of faith and that collaboration will continue as we undertake new projects and serve additional families throughout Los Angeles county.

If your faith community would like to get involved, please contact Chris Untiet, Habitat LA Faith Relations Director, at chrisu@habitatla.org.

Is Your Habitat LA Donation Deductible?
Here’s what you need to know
If you’ve donated to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles, you already know how much your gift helps us to build affordable housing and serve our local community through other critical services. But did you know that contributions you made in 2021 may be tax deductible—and that donations you make in 2022 may be deductible when you file your tax return next year?

Always check with your accountant, tax preparer, or refer to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and California Franchise Tax Board publications to confirm eligibility and filing requirements.
Thank You to Our February 2022 Donors!
