Vermont Smart Growth, Vehicles Miles Traveled, and Greenhouse Gas

We are excited to share the final deliverables for our Vermont Smart Growth, Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT) and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) project. This project started in 2022 with a wide variety of collaborators inside and outside the VT Agency of Transportation (AOT). Collaborators provided data and reviewed several interim deliverables. The final report includes methodology and case studies of several potential growth scenarios for three example towns. The project can be utilized for planning and long-term activities. One Technical Advisory Committee member plans to use the results in public and legislative advocacy for sustainable land use planning (e.g. compact, mixed-use development) to support GHG reduction and strong towns.

Pavement Deterioration Modeling for Pavement Maintenance

Another recently completed project is Pavement Deterioration Modeling. In this project, we wanted to take advantage of 20 years of pavement management data that VT Agency of Transportation (AOT) collects annually to update the expected life-cycle models of our asphalt pavements. With the updated models, we can better prioritize how to utilize our limited resources to maintain our roadways in the best conditions. The models from this project have already been uploaded in the state's pavement management system, thus we are implementing the results of the project right away.
