We are proud to share that Barbara Salop, a dedicated JFS board member and long-time volunteer, is recognized as a Community Good Neighbor in the November issue of Greenwich Magazine.

Barbara has been a pillar of compassion and steadfast support since joining JFS as a volunteer in 2014. Her humility, leadership, and unwavering devotion have touched countless lives in our community. In the article, Barbara reflects on what inspires her service, her commitment to helping others, and her hopes for creating a more caring world. This recognition celebrates Barbara’s extraordinary contributions and the values that make JFS strong. Click here and scroll to page 74-75 to read the full feature.

We are deeply grateful to First Presbyterian Church of Greenwich for their enduring commitment to service and community partnership. Over the years, they have generously supported the work of JFS through a wide range of volunteer efforts — from enrichment trips for immigrant children to financial empowerment workshops and job readiness mentoring.

Recently, Rachel Kornfeld, CEO, was invited to speak about the state of mental health in Greenwich. It was a meaningful opportunity to engage in an intimate conversation with congregants about the many resources offered by JFS and the Bennett Center for Behavioral Health. As Rachel shared:

“Mental health needs cross all races, religions, ethnicities, sexual orientations, and socioeconomic status. The Bennett Center for Behavioral Health is a place for all to receive expert behavioral health services, wrapped in the empathic care for which JFS is known.”

JFS psychotherapist Jessica Lodato, LAMHC, participated in Stamford Public Schools’ Professional Learning Day at Westhill High School, presenting on how Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) tools can enhance Social Emotional Learning (SEL) in the classroom.

Her session, “Living What We Teach Ourselves in the Classroom,” offered practical strategies for educators to support their own mental well-being and shift perspectives, helping teachers care for themselves while building resilience in students.

A heartfelt thank you to Stamford Public Schools for creating space for these meaningful conversations that strengthen both educators and students.

Dana Merise, LPCA, Norwich clinician, attended the Medical Mission event hosted by Hartford Healthcare at Three Rivers Community College in Norwich.

The event provided no-cost medical and behavioral health screenings to community members. Dana represented the JFS Behavioral Health team. She had the opportunity to meet with members of the Norwich community in need of support. Dana discussed their needs, offered support, and explained the many resources available to the greater Norwich community.
