Recognizing how newspapers make a difference
Celebrate National Newspaper Week: Oct. 2-8
By Dean Ridings, CEO, America's Newspapers

National Newspaper Week begins October 2. While this isn’t the typical holiday that most families celebrate, it does provide a good opportunity to take a moment and recognize all the ways that local newspapers make a difference in communities across America.

All newspapers are encouraged to reprint Dean Ridings' editorial. Or, write your own editorial and send dridings@newspapers.org a link. Thank you for joining in the celebration of National Newspaper Week!
Dealing with the economic challenges
Senior Leadership Conference Session
This year has brought a fresh set of economic obstacles to newspapers, following what were already challenging years.

On Tuesday morning during the Senior Leadership Conference, our facilitators will lead a discussion focusing on how newspapers are dealing with increases in raw materials, rising distribution costs, labor shortages, recruiting difficulties and other operational factors impacting the business. Ideas generated by this session alone should pay for the cost of the meeting.

Discussion leaders are: Brad Waters, president, Sentinel Media Co., Rome, New York, and Francis Wick, CEO, Wick Communications.

The Senior Leadership Conference, set for Oct. 16-18 in New Orleans, is the most important meeting of the year for newspaper publishers, owners and leaders.

There are a very limited number of registration spots available for Solutions Partners at the Senior Leadership Conference. Don’t miss your chance to connect with the industry’s most influential executives in New Orleans. Solutions Partner registration is limited to two people per company.

Just a few sponsorship opportunities also are available that include registrations. Contact Patty Slusher for more information about sponsorships: pslusher@newspapers.org.
