Hello Anna,
Established in 1989, National Recovery Month is an annual nationwide observance that takes place in September. Its primary aim is to promote and support the adoption of evidence-based treatment and recovery approaches, celebrate the resilience of the recovery community, and acknowledge the unwavering commitment of service providers and communities in facilitating recovery across diverse pathways.
September is also Pain Awareness Month, an opportunity to reflect on and enhance efforts to support the millions of Americans who suffer from chronic pain, and to acknowledge that pain has far-reaching impacts on individuals, families, communities, and the country. Providing pain care to patients with complex and co-occurring health issues can be challenging. MACS pain management and addiction medicine specialists support providers caring for individuals with chronic pain who are in recovery or have substance use disorders.
With persistent overdose deaths, connecting individuals to addiction treatment and recovery resources remains crucial. Watch the call to action below from Maryland's Secretary of Health, Dr. Laura Herrera Scott, MD, MPH, to understand the vital role healthcare providers and teams play in expanding lifesaving treatment.
