Bringing Health, Fitness, And Community To Men And Women In Recovery

Hi friends,

August was a beautiful reminder that recovery doesn't happen in isolation. It happens through relationships, shared experiences, people willing to show up, and communities that believe in what is possible.

This month, we had opportunities to encourage women in recovery, celebrate one of our own, gather around stories of hope, support a friend who has poured into our community, and watch the impact of our homes continue to grow.

We also looked ahead to three of our biggest events of the year which each one creating another opportunity to raise awareness, build community, and provide support for people pursuing recovery.

Here's a look back at August.

Sharing the Promise of Recovery

On August 7th, Kristy, Pam, and Meredith had the opportunity to spend time with the women of Project WARM, part of SMA Healthcare. Project WARM provides residential treatment for women, including women who are pregnant or parenting young children.

Led by Justin Sweat of Flagler OARS and Discover & Recover, the conversation took an interview-style approach, giving our team the opportunity to share what it's like to work in recovery, the challenges, the rewards, and why this work matters.

The women of Project WARM also had the opportunity to ask questions and engage in an open conversation about recovery and what comes next. As Meredith shared:

“It was awesome to see such engagement and interest from the group. We all walked away feeling great about spreading the promise to them that recovery is possible and in it, they can THRIVE!”

We're grateful for opportunities to share our experiences, encourage others, and remind women that recovery isn't just about getting through. It's about building a life worth thriving in.

Happy Birthday, Pam!

August 10th, we celebrated someone who gives so much to this community; Pam Dent, our Development & Outreach Manager for Recovery RX + Comeback Recovery Homes.

We thank Pam for the heart, passion, and dedication she brings to everything she does. Her willingness to show up, serve others, build relationships, and champion people in recovery makes a lasting impact.

We're incredibly grateful for her and all that she pours into this community. Be sure to wish Pam a happy birthday!

By the Numbers | Recovery in Motion

Since opening our first two homes, we've watched recovery become more than a number on a page. We've watched it become a new life.

46 clients have called our homes their home.

92 days was our average length of stay.

After expanding our support and referral network, that average has grown to 134 days, giving people more time, stability, and support to build what comes next.

6 clients have celebrated one year of sobriety. A few more are closing in on a year too!

And one of our very first residents is now a House Manager, helping others walk the same road he once traveled.

These numbers represent people. They represent second chances, hard days, milestones, and lives being rebuilt.

Recovery is possible, and we're honored to be part of the comeback journey.

Supporting Our Friends

The men of the D. McDougal house recently had the opportunity to attend a performance of Next to Normal, a powerful musical exploring mental health, trauma, grief, family, and the road toward healing.

The production was brought to the stage by our friend, Dr. Alexander, who has generously supported Comeback Recovery Homes through his pro bono dental work.

It was a special opportunity for our residents to show up and support someone who has shown up for us.

We're grateful for friends and partners who use their gifts to pour back into people in recovery and we're thankful for opportunities to return that support and celebrate their work.

The Power of Sharing Your Story

We gathered for a co-ed open meeting at the D. McDougal house this month, where Dave Parramore came and shared his journey with a group of about 25 people.

Dave's story offered a meaningful reminder that recovery is an ongoing pursuit. It's about continuing to slow down, look around, and recognize God's guidance and mercy in the middle of the journey.

The evening also included a teaser of the trailer for 4ORTY, the full-length documentary Dave is creating about his journey.

We're grateful for spaces where people can share honestly, listen to one another, and remember that no matter where we are in the journey, there's always more to learn, more to surrender, and more to hope for.

If you’d like to make a donation in honor of Dave’s ride, you can still do so here! All donations support Recovery RX and our ability to help out the next person who is ready to get and stay sober.

Three Big Events. One Big Mission.

Fall is almost here, and we're gearing up for three major events that support Recovery RX's mission.

Each event looks a little different. But they all share one thing: using community, fitness, and shared experiences to create more opportunities for people in recovery.

September 25–27 | JAX 4x4x48

We're back for year FOUR!

CrossFit 904, Misfit Charities, and Recovery RX are teaming up once again to bring the Goggins 4x4x48 Challenge back to Jacksonville.

4 miles. Every 4 hours. For 48 hours. Run it. Ruck it. Walk it. Or strap on a bib and compete. And this year, timing is back again.

100% of proceeds benefit Recovery RX and help provide treatment and support for people battling addiction.

Every step, every mile, every hour is for those pursuing recovery.

The fun starts at 4 PM.

October 3 | Bear the Burden

The 6th Annual Bear the Burden is coming back to Ocala, hosted by Marion County Fire Rescue.

It's the Big 3—bench press, deadlift, and squat—with individual and team competition.

But this event is about more than lifting. It's about bringing awareness to mental health and addiction through physical fitness while raising funds to provide financial assistance to people in early recovery.

Open to everyone 18+. Come compete. Come cheer. Come support recovery.

October 16 | Scars Under the Stars

This year's Scars Under the Stars event will help us expand the support and services we provide to our clients and our community.

We're working toward adding a dedicated Case Manager and Program Manager to provide individualized guidance, connect clients with essential resources, and help build a strong foundation for long-term recovery.

We're also working toward opening a client-run thrift store, creating immediate employment opportunities for people entering our program while helping them develop job skills, earn income, build confidence, and rediscover purpose.

We've already started collecting furniture, household items, and clothing and we're excited about what's ahead.

Thank you!

As we wrap up August, we're feeling incredibly grateful for the community that continues to rally around this mission. There is so much happening in the months ahead, and we're excited for what’s to come, from our biggest events of the year to new opportunities to support our residents, expand our programs, and create pathways toward purpose and long-term recovery.

Thank you for being part of this community and for continuing to show up, cheer us on, and help make this work possible. We can't wait to see what the next season brings!

With love,

The Recovery RX + Comeback Recovery Homes Family
